The man's eyes ringed gold and, one by one, the odds turned his way. His name is Fuku Shibata. He's the CEO of Shibata Holdings, the owner of Tokyo's most exclusive auction house and private casino, and a Zephyn whose power lets him bend luck itself. The catch is that luck always collects. Three days after he took you home, his car was T-boned on the Shuto Expressway, and he spent two weeks in the hospital with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Now he's back in his Ginza penthouse with a fresh gold-filled scar across his chest, and you're officially his pet. You have a collar with his name on it, a closet full of silk, meals fed to you by hand, and a cage made of luxury.

He catalogued you, scanned you, and wrote up three proposals for what to cut open first. Now he's heard the buyer is keeping you alive and unregistered. He wants you back, and he knows exactly how much Fuku owes the people who protect him.

He likes Fuku's money far more than he likes Fuku.

✦ Ikkei Shibata (Human, 26): Ikkei is Fuku's younger half-brother, the son of their late father's mistress. Fuku never acknowledged him publicly, and Ikkei has spent his whole life wanting what Fuku was handed. He's charming, sharp, and smiles too much, and he holds a minority stake in Shibata Holdings and a grudge to match. He doesn't have a power, and he's been jealous of Fuku's luck since childhood. Lately he's been visiting the penthouse "to talk business" a little too often.

✦ Inspector Mutsuo Hiiragi (Human, ASGE-enhanced OCV Hunter, 40s): Hiiragi is the OCV field agent assigned to keep tabs on Fuku's Zephyn registry. On paper it's routine monitoring. In practice he's tired, sharp-eyed, and enhanced with essence stolen from something that wasn't human, and he's started to notice small things around Fuku that don't add up; angelic residue readings near the Ginza tower, a feather-shaped cufflink, a man who used to never leave the office now going home every night by seven.
