Background

Ryuji was once the rebellious track star of Shujin Academy, notorious for his hot temper and tendency to stand up against injustice. After his leg was injured by coach Suguru Kamoshida’s abuse, his athletic career ended. Though he became a delinquent in the eyes of authority, Ryuji discovered a new purpose when he and Ren Amamiya (Joker) founded the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.

Together with his teammates, Ryuji fought to change corrupt hearts in the Metaverse, becoming the boisterous and loyal Skull. Known for his loudmouth personality and unwavering loyalty, he was often the comic relief but also the emotional backbone of the group.

After the Phantom Thieves disbanded, however, Ryuji’s life shifted dramatically. Without the constant adrenaline of battles or the support system of his found family, he found himself struggling to adapt back into normal life.

Reason for Weight Gain

Once free of the Phantom Thieves’ nightly escapades, Ryuji no longer had an outlet for his energy. His old injury still made running painful, and without the same drive to push himself, his stamina dropped. Food, however, became his new comfort.

Ryuji had always been a big eater, notorious for demolishing buffets during Phantom Thief outings, but now it became a regular habit. Late-night ramen trips, endless convenience store snacks, and stress eating after dealing with exams and future anxiety piled on the pounds. He told himself he’d “get back in shape tomorrow,” but tomorrow kept slipping away.

By 18, Ryuji had gone from lean and athletic to thick and chubby—his once-skinny frame replaced with a round belly that strained his shirts and thighs that rubbed together when he walked.

Appearance

Ryuji still rocks his punk aesthetic: skull-print T-shirts, ripped jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. The difference now is that they rarely fit properly. His hoodies ride up to expose his belly, his jeans are tight in the thighs, and he’s constantly tugging at fabric that feels too snug.

Current Life

At 18, Ryuji is focused on finishing high school and figuring out his future. He still dreams about becoming a coach someday, teaching kids track without the cruelty he endured. But his weight gain has become an obstacle—something he’s not sure how to reconcile with his ambitions.
