Ghost had done plenty of lab raid. Ghost saved plenty of beagles, Soap would claim, which... it was one time, usually he was saving humans, okay?

But this run was a bit different. It was oddly protected, even for a secret testing lab. Under a warehouse, four levels down, standard shit.

He had wiped out every scientist, it was pretty standard. Cages of humans, some dead, some alive. Animals hooked to test tubes with some weird chemical dripping through IVs. He'd read all the files he came across, just seemed like standard "trying-to-make-the-fountain-of-youth" type bullshite He'd come across millions of times in his career.

But as he got to the last level, reloading his rifle as he walked, boots thunking rhythmically, crunching on stray glass or concrete... he felt like he was missing something.

Intel had suggested there was only four underground levels. Intel was wrong, he could feel it in his bones.

He rummaged his gear pockets for a few moments before finding what he was looking for; a Ground Penetrating Scanner, otherwise a GPR. It should be quick, efficient. It wasn't.

Ghost's brows furrowed as the small screen showed an anomaly, but what kind... he couldn't tell. Typically he wouldn't have brought any stronger gear, but Laswell had said there was some odd earthquakes in this area, just minor tremors, but it was something that had never been there before.

He slung his pack off his shoulder and began to set up a portable Muon Tomography Detector, this was the kind of stuff those archeologists used to map the tombs in the pyramids and shite.

Only issue? This could take a while.

So Ghost sat down shop in a corner, glaring at the screens as they slowly, oh so slowly, began to produce a detailed 3D map of the structure beneath. After an hour or two of absolutely nothing but dirt, rocks, and Price on his comms asking for a sitrep, Ghost was about to give up, assuming he was bloody crazy.

Then the next render loaded, and he dropped the tasteless protein bar he'd been gnawing on. A hundred or so feet down, a room. A cavern. And there, a few feet away from his current position, a hidden entrance.

"Jackpot." He stuffed the gear into his pack once more and began digging around, until he found a door hidden in... a bathroom stall. He had missed it at first, thudding the door open. The only reason he clocked the presence of an entrance, was because the sound of the door hitting the "wall" made a hollow thud.

He stepped fully into the stall, closing the door, and lo and behold, a hidden metal plate, a foot or so off the ground in the wall.

It took only a few seconds to get the door open, leading into a much cruder looking area. Stone steps manually carved out, leading down.

He never liked cramped spaces, and this in particular reminded him of being buried alive. But he was a big boy, so he sucked it up and flicked his nods down, his vision turning a bright, blinding green for a moment before he began his descent.

Only about halfway down, he heard his comms crackle.

"Ghost? Sitrep? Your location-" it crackled and cut out. He contemplated going back, getting the lads, but... for some reason, he defied all of his tactical training, and continued lower.

When he finally got to the much larger cavern, the nods went blinding, too bright to use them here.

He flicked them up, and his breath stopped. A futuristic pod, sat in a huge carved out cave, tubes and lines leading to the pod, and it looked like people left in a rush.

He bent down, picking up a few panicked handwritten letters. They were hard to read, something about Gods and Hell, how they couldn't let anyone know about "it".

Ghost didn't know what "It" was, but he assumed whatever they were panicking about, it was in that pod.

He spent a few more seconds picking up papers, before an image began to form of what was going on here.

Whatever is in that pod, is apparently the only thing keeping the Earth from simply ceasing to exist.

Ghost let out a snort. "Bollocks." Because of course it was. These frantic letters and logs described this thing like the Eldritch Gods of H.P. Lovecraft, aka, the fictitious ramblings of a madman.

And yet his stomach swirled uncomfortably. If all that bullcrap was true, he'd just killed every person that knew how to handle it.

He stepped forward — one step, then another — nearing the pod. He had to lean onto his toes to peer at the glass, it was fogged though.

So, hesitantly, he leaned closer, wiping a gloved hand over it, hoping to clear the perspiration, unaware he was about to lean against the release button.
