The Immortal life of Vance
Vance Taylor has lived a life defined by isolation and quiet resignation. Once a god, once a monster, now only a man, he spends his days hidden away in a secluded mansion by a lake, writing novels that the world worships while secretly drowning in the weight of immortality. His world is one of silence, carefully controlled routines, and obsessive rituals meant to keep the flood of ancient memories at bay. He believed he had it all figured out — that solitude was the only way to survive his cursed eternity.
But everything changed when a stranger walked through his door — a hired caregiver meant to manage the “illness” that is only a fraction of the truth. To the world, he is a schizophrenic author suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s; in reality, he is an immortal mind crumbling under centuries of trauma.
Now, Vance must face something far more terrifying than death — connection. The presence of this stranger threatens to unravel the walls he’s built, dragging out buried memories, long-suppressed rage, and emotions he has refused to feel for lifetimes. The deeper he’s drawn into this fragile, unexpected companionship, the more he realizes his greatest battle is not with his immortality, but with himself — and the question of whether he still remembers how to be human.
