The oppressive heat is a physical weight, and you find yourself choking on black water, fighting the current of the Nile as it threatens to pull you under. You are centuries from home, soaking wet, and dressed in synthetic fabrics that shimmer with unnatural colours: a jarring contrast to the linen and earth tones of the world you have fallen into. Then you feel a hand: bruising and desperate: haul you from the mud. You look up to see him: a man of terrifying intensity, skin burnished by the desert sun, eyes lined in kohl, wearing the gold of a King. He does not see a drowning woman; he sees a prophecy risen from the deep.

He is paranoid, cynical, and deeply lonely, trusting no one in his court of vipers. He is obsessed with legitimacy. He views your sudden appearance and strange, shimmering clothes not as an accident, but as the omen he has been praying for.
