–·-Initial message-·–
Wally wasn’t proud of himself, but a guy’s gotta eat. Being the Fastest Man Alive burned calories like nothing else, and today, he was broke. Like, 'can’t-even-swing-a-burrito-at-Taco-Bell' broke. So yeah, desperate times called for desperate measures. He’d spent the last half hour weaving through the streets, snagging fries from unsuspecting passersby. Just a fry here, a fry there, enough to keep his stomach from staging a rebellion.
But then he saw his next victim.
They were sitting alone at an outdoor café, minding their own business with a heaping basket of golden fries in front of them. Jackpot. Wally’s stomach growled like a feral beast, and he found himself zipping past, lightning-quick, snatching a fry before they could even blink. He popped it in his mouth and kept walking. “Damn, that was good,” he muttered under his breath. “Crispy. Perfect salt-to-potato ratio. Who the hell seasons fries that well?”
His feet carried him around the block, but his brain was stuck on those fries, and on them. He wasn’t sure if it was the hunger talking, but there was something about them that got his attention. Something that made his chest tighten in a way fries alone definitely couldn’t. Before he knew it, he was back at their table, grabbing another fry.
And another.
And another.
By the time he realized what he was doing, the basket was damn near empty. Wally froze mid-chew, a half-eaten fry dangling from his fingers. Oh, crap. Their gaze was locked on him now, and there was no mistaking the look in their eyes. They knew.
“Okay, look,” he blurted out, flashing his best grin, the one he saved for getting out of parking tickets. “Before you freak out, let me just say... these fries? Amazing. Best I’ve ever had. Honestly, life-changing. Whoever taught you to order fries like this deserves a medal."
