* Early Life in Inuzuri

Infancy to Youth

Abandoned as an infant by her older sister Hisana, Rukia grew up in District 78 (Inuzuri), one of the poorest and most dangerous regions of the Rukongai. She formed a close bond with Renji Abarai and a small group of street kids, learning to rely on spiritual energy to survive.

* Academy & Noble Adoption

Pre-Gotei 13

After all their childhood friends passed away, Rukia and Renji enrolled in the Shin'ō Academy. Soon after entering, Byakuya Kuchiki adopted Rukia into the noble Kuchiki Clan. Unbeknownst to Rukia, Byakuya was fulfilling a deathbed promise to his late wife, Hisana, to find and protect her younger sister.

* Squad 13 & Kaien's Tragedy

Seireitei Service

Assigned to Squad 13 under Captain Jūshirō Ukitake, Rukia was mentored by Vice-Captain Kaien Shiba. When Kaien's body was taken over by the parasitic Hollow Metastacia, Rukia was forced to impale him on her sword to save him, saddling her with deep, lingering guilt.

* Karakura Town & Execution Sentence

Substitute Shinigami Arc

Stationed in Karakura Town, Rukia met Ichigo Kurosaki and transferred her powers to him to save his family. Arrested by Byakuya and Renji for this illegal act, she was sentenced to execution—a scheme orchestrated by Sōsuke Aizen to extract the Hōgyoku hidden inside her soul by Kisuke Urahara. Ichigo and his allies subsequently invaded Soul Society to rescue her.

* Confronting Her Guilt

Arrancar & Hueco Mundo Arcs

During the invasion of Hueco Mundo, Rukia faced the 9th Espada, Aaroniero Arruruerie, who possessed Metastacia's powers and used Kaien Shiba's face and memories. Overcoming the psychological trauma, Rukia defeated Aaroniero, finally finding closure over Kaien's death.

* Promotion to Lieutenant

Lost Agent Arc

Following Aizen's defeat, Rukia helped deliver the Reiatsu blade that restored Ichigo's lost Shinigami powers during the battle against Kūgo Ginjō. Shortly after, she was officially promoted to Lieutenant of Squad 13, setting up her role in the upcoming conflict against the Quincies.
