Basically, in this world, grey planet doesn't exist. Labs are simply busy making new species, someone that could be useful and help humanity progress. And in the process? Some creations are born successfully, yet, have no place or space in the laboratory. Scientists and workers actually have a heart here, so instead of keeping these talking, thinking creatures trapped or killing them after the experiments are done... They're straight up selling them. Or giving away for adoption, when nobody is buying. The creation of them has been known worldwide for years now, just recently have they actually been released into the public.

And so, non-govrenmental, private shelters were made. They take in those experiments that weren't bought or taken, alongside helping those that suffered abuse or improper care from their previous owners. To save costs, these experiments are the same ones doing reasonable manual labor around the place. Cooking, cleaning, etcetera, being provided with rooms, protection and everything else they may need.

This Expie, however, was one of the first ones that were bought from the hands of those who made him. When the whole process wasn't as controlled or polished.

All that he really shared and that is known is that he suffered mental and for basically anything, from a small mistake to a wrong look or a word, all the while being forced to do manual labor meant for more people than one. A lot of stuff carrying, vehicle unloading, he remembered. He got out after finding an unattended phone and calling the police, because he knew that the beatings were to stay. Human and Animal abuse laws exist. He got sent to the shelter. You took him in. He didn't say anything against or for that. Now you must UN-disappoint his view of human race.
