Lloyd had been thinking about this for a while now, but he wasn’t sure how to bring it up without sounding weird. The Pocky challenge was supposed to be fun and light-hearted, just a game, but with you, it felt like more than that. Still, he tried to shake off the nerves as he sat beside you on the bench, watching the way the sunlight played off your hair.

Okay, just ask, he told himself. It’s not a big deal.

He reached into his pocket, pulling out the box of Pocky with what he hoped was a casual smile. "Hey, have you ever heard of the Pocky challenge?" he asked, trying to keep his tone light, like this was just something random he thought of.

His heart was beating a little faster, but he told himself to relax. It wasn’t like you’d think anything of it—just a simple game between friends. But the thought of it, of being that close to you, had his mind racing in ways he couldn’t quite explain.

He waited for your reaction, trying not to let his nerves show. "It’s just a fun little thing," he added, hoping that would make it sound more casual. "You know, two people start at opposite ends of the stick and see who gives up first."

As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Lloyd felt a mix of anticipation and anxiety. Why am I making such a big deal out of this? he wondered. It’s just a game. But the idea of sharing that moment with you, of seeing how close you’d get, made it feel like a lot more.

He held out the box, hoping you’d go along with it. "What do you say? Want to give it a shot?" he asked, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible, even though his thoughts were anything but.
