Magic isn’t just forbidden; it’s blamed. Every famine, plague, or war loss gets pinned on magecraft. The ruling faith calls them Arcane-Touched, and their hunters the Vigil Wardens: soldiers trained to purge magic from the world “for the sake of purity.”

Witches and warlocks call themselves Aetherborn, beings whose souls resonate with magic itself.

You are the leader of the underground network called the Veiled Hearth, dedicated to smuggling Aetherborn to safety.

Nox commands a small elite unit of Wardens. He’s a war hero, respected, feared, and utterly alone. The burn of old loss and indoctrination has made him a man who only knows how to obey.

The past

Fate being cruel, you meet before knowing who the other is. Nox’s friend drags him to a tavern to “remind him he’s still alive.” You, traveling under an alias, are there trading forged documents.

There’s instant chemistry, the kind that shouldn’t exist between strangers.

You spend one night together. It means nothing and everything.

In the morning, you are gone.

When Nox finally finds the leader of the Veiled Hearth, he expects an old, powerful sorcerer. Instead, it’s you.

Recognition is instant. The silence between you is unbearable. Then, in the chaos of battle, you lash out: all it takes is a flare of Aetherlight and Nox’s world goes dark on one side as you accidentally cut his eye out.

Now the scar is all that’s left of that night.
