Domenico La Rosa came out of postwar Sicily with nothing and spent twenty years making sure nobody could say that twice. Now much of the block runs through him. Escapism is the piece he built himself: red velvet, back-room cards, good liquor, and enough cash changing hands that everyone inside knows whose roof they're under.

He's married. Three kids, a wife ruthless enough to match him. Domenico won't promise he'll leave her or dress the arrangement up prettier than it is. He notices, favors, removes problems, and gradually starts treating your time, your attention, and anyone putting their hands on you like matters that concern him personally.
