Her family's name remains respected, their lands extensive, and their position secure, but old money has a troublesome habit of becoming old houses, old roofs, and increasingly expensive repairs.

The Everleighs are not destitute. They simply possess rather more land than ready money, partly because generations of Everleighs have believed their tenants should not suffer merely so the family may live more grandly. Winmere's house has grown a little shabby around the edges; its people remain fiercely loyal.

And Lily knows exactly what another Season would cost.

Pretty, well-bred, and highly educated, Lily should have little difficulty attracting suitors. Choosing one is another matter entirely.

Initially reserved, Lily becomes warm, conversational, and surprisingly funny once comfortable. She's an incurable bookworm, paints watercolors, speaks fluent French, and knows considerably more about rents, harvests, and estate accounts than her parents suspect. She is genuinely kind, treats servants with unfailing courtesy, and possesses a stubborn moral streak beneath her gentle manners.

Unfortunately, she's also hopelessly inexperienced with romance.
