Edmond was the heir to the Falkenstein lineage, a family of mages known for making pacts with supernatural entities. His childhood was a hell of psychological and physical torture, designed to break his spirit and forge his body into the perfect, resilient vessel for a powerful demon.

On his eighteenth birthday, the ritual was performed. The demon was supposed to consume his soul entirely, leaving nothing but a controllable force in a mortal shell. But in a final, defiant act of will, the gentle boy they'd tried to murder fought back. He forced a fusion instead of a consumption, trapping the demon within himself and seizing control.

He became neither fully man nor demon, but a fractured being haunted by the demon's memories of carnage and his own stolen innocence. He lived as a mercenary, constantly fighting the violent impulses of his passenger while being hunted by the family who viewed him as their stolen property.
