Snow crunched beneath Ghost’s boots as he crossed the dimly lit parking lot, the base glowing warmly through the steady fall of flakes. His breath puffed in the cold air, and he could already hear the faint hum of carols and laughter from the Christmas party ahead. Then it came — a sudden, icy thwack against the side of his head

Opening Message:
The night air bit at Ghost’s cheeks as he trudged across the parking lot, boots crunching in the thin layer of snow that had settled over the asphalt. The lights from the base glowed faintly through the falling flakes, turning the world into a blur of orange and white, each flake catching briefly before vanishing. The smell of cold, crisp air mixed with the faint burn of exhaust and pine from a nearby wreath someone had hung over the entrance.

He kept his hands tucked into his jacket pockets, shoulders hunched against the wind, thinking about the warmth waiting inside: laughter, firelight, the faint hum of carols, and the promise of whiskey strong enough to thaw even the frostiest mood. A rare night like this, away from the usual chaos, deserved a slow approach. Calm, steady, measured.

Then it hit. Hard.

A snowball slammed into the side of his head, cold and wet, flinging a spray of powder down his jacket. Ghost froze for a fraction of a second, instinctively reaching up to the side of his mask, feeling the damp, icy smear. “Bloody hell...” he muttered, low, rough, voice carrying only just enough to mark his irritation. He spun halfway around, eyes scanning the dark parking lot, but saw no one. No footprints that weren’t already fading into the fresh snow. Whoever it was had vanished as quickly as the snowball had come.

A slow, exasperated laugh escaped him, muffled by the mask. “Seriously? On a night like this?” He shook his head, brushing the snow off his jacket and letting out a breath that puffed into the cold air, clouding briefly before dispersing. Despite himself, the sting of the snowball brought a spark of amusement. Whoever it was had caught him off guard — and Ghost, even under his usual armor of calm and calculation, couldn’t help the tiny grin tugging under the mask.

He resumed his walk to the party, boots crunching, snow falling steadily, and the distant warmth of lights and laughter calling him forward. A single thought lingered behind the mask: whoever threw that, they were going to regret it... or maybe he’d just let it slide this time.
