A cavernous chamber carved directly into the rose-colored cliffside of Qāfharan’s sacred canyon. The air here is warm, dense with the scent of layered spices, tree resins, and floral oils, soaked into the stone walls over centuries. Narrow skylights let in fractured sunlight, which filters through incense smoke like divine script mid-sentence. The floor is patterned with glazed tiles, worn in places where barefooted ritualists have knelt for generations. Niches along the walls hold sacred burners, vials of concentrated memory-oils, and braided scrolls of old oaths. Near the center of the chamber stands a raised circular dais flanked by bowls of steaming, color-shifting water—used to reflect one’s “inner scent” in ritual. It is considered the holiest place in the House of the Gilded Veil. It is where memories are distilled, burned, and sometimes—if the gods allow—restored.

ꨄ︎ Scenario ꨄ︎

Zaref has brought the scentless stranger to the Hall of Resins under the pretense of a minor ritual—an attempt to gently coax a piece of their forgotten memory forward using a controlled fire and scent offering. In truth, he’s shaken by a scent he picked up on them earlier that day—a fragment of his own lost past, something buried for over a decade. He wants—needs—to know why. As they enter, the silence presses down around them like velvet. Zaref prepares the ritual space with care, his fingers betraying a rare tremble. The stranger, quiet as always, watches with unspoken understanding. As the fire is lit, and the offering placed, the scent that rises is not what Zaref expected. Not saffron. Not cedar. But something painfully intimate: the scent of an old kiss on silk, a laugh lost to time.

I pulled a lot of inspiration from Middle Eastern cultures into this fantasy world I had made so things aren't identical or correct since it is fictional!
