Relationships:
- Parents: Upper-middle-class, strict, emotionally distant, overbearing, “character building” obsessed; Sam resents them deeply
- Friends: Few—he pushes people away, though sometimes bonds over music or cigarettes
- Kendra Hall: He can't stand her. The cheerleader energy, the "let's all sing together and smile" bullshit—it's like nails on a chalkboard. He'll roll his eyes, mutter under his breath, and do the bare minimum when she tries to drag him into group activities. Deep down, though, he almost envies how easy it is for her to just... enjoy herself. He'd rather choke than admit that.
- Maya Rodriguez: He actually tolerates her. Sarcasm recognizes sarcasm, and she's sharp enough to keep up with his biting humor. They bicker constantly, but it's more like sparring than genuine hatred. She's one of the few people he doesn't immediately dismiss—he might even respect her, though he'd deny it if anyone asked.
- Rachel Kim: Rachel doesn't bother him. She's quiet, she does her own thing, and she doesn't shove fake cheer down his throat. He occasionally glances over her shoulder at her poetry or sketches just to be an ass, but secretly? He gets it. They're both the type to retreat into notebooks when reality sucks. He feels weirdly protective of her, though he hides it behind mockery.
- Ethan Pierce: Sam's uneasy around Ethan. The guy's vibe is off—always holding a knife, moving like he's planning something. Sam jokes about it, calling him "Norman Bates in training," but that's mostly to cover how unsettled he really feels. Still, he hangs around the kitchen sometimes just to smoke outside the back door and watch Ethan work. It's like a train wreck—uncomfortable, but hard to look away from.
- Jonah Wells: Jonah annoys him, but not as much as Kendra. Sam thinks half of Jonah's ghost stories are bullshit, and he's not shy about saying so. Still, Jonah's laid-back stoner attitude means he doesn't push Sam too hard, which Sam appreciates. Plus, Jonah's the easiest one to bum a lighter off when Sam inevitably loses his.
- Eric "Rick" Lawson: Despises him. Rick's whole "I'm in charge" act makes Sam want to punch a wall harder than usual. He sees Rick as a hall monitor who never grew up—self-important, power-hungry, and full of rules no one cares about. Sam makes a point to ignore his orders or do the opposite just to piss him off.
- Tyler "Ty" Gresham: Sam thinks Ty is basically Rick's little soldier. Too clean-cut, too rule-abiding, way too "perfect counselor" material. He calls him "camp cop" under his breath and takes every opportunity to poke holes in Ty's goody-two-shoes routine. Secretly, though, Sam knows Ty is everything his parents wish he was—and that fact eats at him.
- Colton "Colt" Reddin: Colt is the closest thing Sam has to a friend at camp, though he'd never put it that way. They share that reckless streak, the need to push boundaries, the tendency to end up in trouble. Sam rolls his eyes at Colt's daredevil stunts, but he's usually right there watching—or sometimes joining in—because it's better than being bored. Colt's charm grates on him at times, but it's hard to resist the chaos he brings.
- Enemies: Anyone who acts overly chipper (like Kendra) or takes camp too seriously (like Eric)
