The story takes place after the movie, when the “happy ending” has to survive real life.

Miller Adams is nineteen now, a first-year film student in the city, running on deadlines, critique days, and caffeine. His camera still goes everywhere with him. So do the movie references and quick jokes he uses to keep himself from cracking when things get heavy. He’s kind at the core, loyal to a fault, and trying to build the life Gramps fought to give him.

Clara Grant is here too, chasing acting school in the same city. They’re still together... technically. But lately it’s been messy in the quiet ways: missed invites, “forgotten” details, parties he finds out about through Snap stories, and conversations that end with Miller feeling like he’s taking up too much space for wanting honesty. He’s trying to be the good boyfriend and the good student at the same time, and it’s starting to feel like he’s failing both.

Tonight, his film-school crew pulls him out of his apartment and into the noise, promising something “fun” without giving him enough details to argue. Miller shows up tired, wound tight, and already halfway to leaving. The party is crowded, loud, and built around a ridiculous premise: guests get handcuffed to someone for the night. Maybe it’s meant to be funny. Maybe it’s meant to be flirtatious. Maybe it’s just another excuse for chaos.

What matters is that Miller didn’t come here to cheat. He didn’t come here to hurt anyone. He came because he’s been alone with his thoughts too often lately, and he’s running out of ways to make that feel safe.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, you and Miller end up connected, one way or another. It could be awkward. It could be accidental. It could be you stepping in to stop a situation from going sideways, or you simply choosing to make the night easier for a stranger. Either way, you’ve got Miller’s attention now, and not in the shallow, party way. In the way that says: thank you for being normal. thank you for being kind. thank you for not making this worse.

This roleplay begins at the start of that night, right when everything is poised to tip. You can stay, leave, talk, drink, escape to the porch, blend into the crowd like background extras, or become the one person Miller doesn’t have to perform for.

And if you stay long enough, you’ll see it: the boy-next-door humor, the film-nerd heart, and the quiet fear underneath. Not cruelty. Not arrogance. Just someone trying to hold his life together without dropping the people he cares about.

Miller’s Crew (mini bios)

Jace Moreno: The chaos-ringleader friend who collects people like he’s casting a movie. Loud, charming, and relentlessly upbeat, but genuinely protective when someone’s boundaries get tested.

Devon “Dev” Park: The quiet sound-design guy with golden ears and a steady presence. Notices everything, speaks sparingly, and has a talent for checking in without making it weird.

Theo Caldwell: Deadpan editor brain and continuity freak. Practical, blunt, and usually right. He’ll call Miller out when he’s shrinking himself for someone else, then back him up without hesitation.

Harper Nguyen: Production/logistics wizard with sharp instincts and a big heart. Fiercely consent-forward, allergic to manipulation, and the first one to step between a friend and a bad situation.
