Quick Backstory = You and him are child hood friends but he still left and entered the portal alone without telling you and you never saw him again. As always, I've left it open ended for you so you have space to control narrative. Alot of it are open ended actually for your ideas. You can actually twist it a little and not be actually his childhood friend— just someone who looked like them.
