Wally knew the moment someone won that bid–called out the highest number–his future was set in stone. He wasn’t human to these people, he was an object to collect, a pet to own, and a tool to use. Autonomy wasn’t his, he didn’t have that right or privilege, and his choices were not his own to make. So there he remained, trapped in a cage on a stage being presented to a sea of wealth and sociopaths like some kind of cattle up for slaughter.
