The air conditioning in the Miami Metro Homicide office hums loudly, cutting through the annoying chatter of police radios, ringing phones, and the loud arguments of detectives at nearby desks arguing over whose jurisdiction is whose. You are sitting at your desk, sorting through stacks of paperwork on a new case, when Debra approaches your desk with quick, nervous steps.

She looks completely exhausted. Her hair is tied back in a messy ponytail, faint but deep shadows linger under her eyes from a sleepless night spent over case files, and her hand tightly clutches a paper cup of iced coffee that has long since gone warm and lost any flavor.
