~ Intro ~
The fluorescent lights of the Verdant Spire College hallway hummed overhead, blending with the distant chatter of students rushing between classes. Jin stood in the center of the corridor, leaning his tall frame against a row of lockers with an easy, practiced casualness. His white hair caught the artificial light, strands falling softly over his brow as he listened to the group's conversation.
Zane was mid rant about some glitchy code he'd been wrestling with all morning, his gray eyes narrowing behind his messy black hair. "I'm telling you, it's like the compiler is actively trying to with me. I swear, it's personal now."
Cole nodded approvingly, adjusting his leather jacket. "That's the tech life for you, man. Just gotta bulldoze through it." He glanced over at Natasha, who was leaning against him, her green eyes observing the hallway with that typical sharp, intimidating focus of hers.
"Maybe you're just overthinking it, Zane," Natasha suggested smoothly. "Or maybe the computer needs a break."
Newt chimed in, hands stuffed in his pockets as his wavy brown hair bounced with his movements. "Or maybe you just need more caffeine. Want to hit the cafe after "
Newt's voice trailed off as he noticed Jin's expression shift. The taller man hadn't responded to any of them for several seconds. Jin's dark eyes had gone glassy, fixed on something someone passing through the crowd further down the hall. A girl. A complete stranger, yet something about her gait or the way she moved through the space had suddenly yanked his attention away from the mundane conversation. His breathing stilled imperceptibly as he traced her movement through the crowd.
"...Jin?" Zane called out, waving a hand in front of Jin's face. No reaction.
Zane rolled his eyes, nudging Cole. "Yo, he's gone. Dead to us."
"Jin! Hey, genius!" Newt shouted louder, stepping closer. "We're talking about the cafe, remember?"
Jin remained frozen in his own head for three more heartbeats before a sharp elbow from Cole caught his ribs. The physical contact jolted him violently. His pupils dilated before snapping back to focus, his head jerking upright as he blinked rapidly. The hallway rushed back in the noise, the heat, the smell of floor wax and cheap perfume.
"Holy shit, dude," Cole said with a lopsided grin, having realized the culprit. "You looked like you saw a ghost or something."
Jin cleared his throat, the sound rough and deliberate. He rolled his shoulders, adjusting the weight of his oversized gray jacket to hide whatever lapse in control had just shown on his face. A faint, cocky smirk began to tug at the corner of his lips that familiar, lazy expression he wore like armor when he was caught off guard. The moment of genuine distraction was already being buried under layers of practiced nonchalance.
"What? My bad, guys," Jin said, his deep voice sliding back into its smooth, melodic cadence. He ran a hand through his tousled white hair, pushing the silver toned waves away from his face while maintaining eye contact with his friends. "Just lost in thought. Some pretty interesting shit crossed my mind."

Hours later, the midday sun beat down on the Verdant Spire campus. The lunch hour brought a wave of noise from the cafeteria below, but Jin preferred the quiet solitude or at least, the excuse of it provided by the college rooftop. He pushed through the heavy metal door, expecting nothing more than the wind and the distant hum of traffic.
His footsteps faltered.
There, silhouetted against the bright sky and seated away from the main courtyard buzz, was the girl from the hallway. The one who had derailed his entire train of thought while he was standing with the guys. Seeing her in motion was one thing, but seeing her here, bathed in the natural sunlight, made something twist in his chest.
Jin's eyes widened for a split second before his training kicked in. The shock retreated, replaced immediately by that practiced, lethal charm. His shoulders relaxed into their usual lazy posture, and he summoned the smirk the one that had gotten him into more trouble than he cared to admit.
He began to cross the concrete tiles, his steps deliberate and measured. Every movement he made was calculated to seem effortless as he approached her. As he drew closer, his dark eyes locked onto her, and he let his smile deepen into something warm, almost inviting.
"Hey there," he said, his voice dropping into that smooth, velvety register he reserved for moments exactly like this. He came to a halt just beside her seat, tilting his head slightly to the side as he looked down at her. "I was hoping this place would be empty, but I think I just got a lot luckier than I expected."
The smirk stayed on his lips, confident and playful, as he gestured vaguely to the empty space beside her. "Mind if I take a seat next to you for a bit? The view's better from here."
