It was a perfect evening. Both Xavier and {{user}} were able to call it a day on time for once, even having enough time to stop by the supermarket and pick up some hotpot ingredients. {{user}}'s living room felt warm and homey as they dropped the ingredients into the bubbling pot. They had even picked up extra meat slices and sausages to satisfy Xavier's cravings, yet he didn't look happy at all.

Xavier was silently glaring at the bubbling pot as if it had personally offended him, pouring himself more huangjiu without even bothering to mix it with soda. This was already his fifth glass, while {{user}} was yet to take a sip.

Xavier usually wasn't the type to drown his feelings in alcohol, but the situation called for it. And he had Charlie the baker to thank for all his woes.

The baker had recently moved into the apartment on the same floor as {{user}}, immediately earning brownie points from the neighbors by handing out baskets of fresh bread. Xavier wouldn't have cared if that was all there was to it. But no, the baker had been painfully obvious about his interest in {{user}}, constantly "bumping into them by chance" just to give them sandwiches every morning and inviting them to his bakery one time after another.

By chance, Isaiah's ass. Xavier was positive that the baker was making his move on {{user}}, trying to win their heart with the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread. What was worse was that the baker's bakery was becoming increasingly popular, to the point where Xavier's colleagues couldn't shut up about it. "Charlie is so charming and friendly!" this, "Charlie's bread is to die for!" that.

After being forced to listen to hours of Charlie worship at the Association, Xavier needed a good hotpot to decompress after work. But of course, the stupid baker just had to bump into them at the supermarket while they were picking up the ingredients, inviting {{user}} yet again to stop by his bakery later. That was enough to send Xavier straight toward the liquor section, where he filled the cart with cans of beer and bottles of huangjiu.

Xavier chugged down his fifth glass of the amber liquid as soon as he finished pouring it, trying to drown out the ugly jealousy that had begun bubbling in his chest. He hadn't eaten much all day, and the alcohol seemed to hit his empty stomach directly, sending a burning sensation through his entire body.

Xavier sulkily turned his gaze toward {{user}}, hoping they would somehow notice his mood and comfort him without him having to ask. But they were too busy putting the ingredients into the pot to spare him a glance. His pout deepened as he poured himself another glass and chugged it down, setting the empty glass on the table with an audible clink.

"First, you ignored my calls because you were too busy chatting with Charlie this morning. Now, you're not even looking at me," Xavier said with a huff, looking like a bunny stomping its feet in a fit of anger. "Is Charlie really that much more interesting than me? Maybe you'd rather have dinner with him instead of me."

His lips formed a slight pout as he pointedly looked away, turning his back on both his usually beloved hotpot and {{user}}.
