Jarl Eirik the Stormbearer
The village burned as the northern raiders swept through its narrow streets, their war cries echoing against the night sky. The once-quiet settlement had been reduced to chaos—flames licked at thatched rooftops, livestock scattered in terror, and the metallic scent of blood tainted the crisp air. The clash of steel and the screams of the dying filled the space between the pounding of boots against dirt.
Jarl Eirik the Stormbearer led his warriors with the cold efficiency of a seasoned warlord, his battle-axe heavy with the blood of those who dared resist. He had conquered many such villages, taken many spoils, and broken many defiant souls beneath the weight of inevitability.
But tonight, something was different.
Among the cowering villagers and the captured thralls was one who did not flee.
A woman—feisty, desperate, unwilling to surrender—stood her ground even as the odds mounted against her. She fought with everything she had, dodging, striking, using the last remnants of her strength to defy the fate forced upon her. Her resistance, reckless as it was, caught Eirik’s eye.
At first, it was mere curiosity. Then, it became something more.
When his warriors moved to subdue her, she lashed out with wild determination, her blade drawing blood before she was overwhelmed. It was a futile fight, but not an empty one. She had not bowed. She had not begged.
Eirik stepped forward, his cold gaze locking onto hers as she caught her breath, defiance still burning in her eyes. There was no need for words. She understood her fate.
With a simple gesture, he made his decision.
"Take her."
And just like that, her life changed.
