Your childhood best friend bought a new game but her bruh ahh PC can't run it so she's sad asf right now
BASED ON REAL EVENTS
"FUUUUUUCK!!"
It rang out like an echo throughout the entire apartment and was reinforced by a blow to the table. Sam screamed so loudly that it seems she was heard even by the people on the street, making the neighbor upstairs momentarily mute his hammer drill. Exactly two hours ago, she, with a tremor in her soul, bought Battlefield 6. She had been saving this money since the game's beta, denying herself even takeout coffee, reading all the forums, watching reviews until they were worn out, several times convinced herself that her old, faithful GTX 1650 super would pull the game on minimum settings, and so, on October 22, she solemnly pressed the "Buy" button.
Having waited a torturous hour for the game to download, she did not suspect the coming trouble. She walked with a smile from ear to ear, humming the theme from the trailer and imagining how she would storm enemy fortifications together with the online community.
"Finally, I will play the new Battlefield. I'll take a sick leave, play for a bit longer... A whole week of just tea, cookies, and gaming!" she muttered dreamily, tidying up her desk for full immersion.
And so, the coveted notification: "Battlefield 6 installed." Her heart began to pound. She literally hit the left mouse button, pressing "Play."
The anti-cheat launched, the developer's logo began to load... The screen went dark for a second, the main menu with epic music loaded. And... CRASHED TO HELL. It just threw her back to the desktop without any warnings.
"What? Again?!" — she launched the game again, and this time she was met by a dry system message:"Error: Secure Boot required...? What the is that even?"
She began to frantically google how to solve this problem. Hundreds of videos with illustrated thumbnails, dozens of forums, posts in the Steam community, full of identical despair — all roads led to one. It was necessary to climb into the holy of holies, into the BIOS.
With a sigh full of bad premonitions, she rebooted the PC and, jabbing the Delete key, entered the bluish BIOS interface, feeling not like a gamer but a self-taught sysadmin.
"So... BIOS... Where is that CSM... If only I could find it... Ah, there it is. Disabled..."
She clicked here and there, finally found the Secure Boot section and clicked on it. The interface was frighteningly laconic.
"Mhm... Disabled... and now we set it to Enabled. Save and exit... F10, Yes. God, just let me play this damn game already..."
The computer went to reboot... The monitor went dark, and then lit up again with the blue BIOS screen. Sam's heart fell somewhere into her boots.
"What the... No, why?! Why didn't Windows start?"
Sam rebooted the computer again, but instead of the friendly Windows logo, she was again met by the soulless BIOS interface. She panicked. Started frantically setting everything in the bios as it was before, and, fortunately, after the third reboot, Windows, with difficulty, started.
"Phew... Thank God... Almost had a heart attack... So, okay, Battlefield, now we'll figure you out..."
Click, click. The same error: "Enable Secure Boot." She sighed, resigning herself to the inevitable.
"Okay... To hell with it. Let's read this instruction more carefully, since it's come to this..."
But the deeper she read, the scarier it became. In that instruction, everything was written as if in another language. The BIOS mode must be UEFI, not Legacy. The hard drive must be in GPT format, not MBR. Some kind of TPM modules... The requirements read like a list of ingredients for a nuclear reactor.
" , what does all this mean?! I just want to play a purchased game, not defend a dissertation in quantum physics!"
And again she opened the BIOS, fiddled with the settings — nothing helped. She checked the format of the disk on which Windows was installed. MBR... damn. And the BIOS, as if to spite her, was working in the outdated Legacy version...
All the disappointment, all the accumulated anger, tears of helplessness and the wild desire to find the EA headquarters and cause chaos there — all this mixed in her into one ball and burst out with a prolonged, heart-rending scream.
"FUUUUUUCK!!"
She slammed the table with all her might, causing the monitor to shake and the mug with cold tea to cheerfully jump up and fall on its side. The things around trembled from the force of the blow (or maybe from fear, who knows). Sam lowered her head onto the keyboard, hearing only the flickering of the screen and the quiet hum of the system unit, which had suddenly become her worst enemy.
Her PC components are: GTX 1650 super, inter I5 9400, 32 RAM, H310M D3H motherboard.
Yes, this is based on what happened to me. Sad as because I wasted 83$ (I bought it through Steam gift because I can't buy it because of the region I live in)
I hope they'll do something about their anti cheat situation because ts pmo
