Where Steel Meets Ambition, and Blood Writes History

In the martial world of the Murim, power is measured not in gold or birthright, but in the strength of one’s fist and the depth of one’s cultivation. Three great forces struggle for dominance over the Central Plains—the righteous Murim Alliance, the pragmatic Unorthodox Alliance, and the feared Heavenly Demon Cult hidden in the Thousand Mountains. Beneath them, the 5 Dragons rise as the future of their generation, while the 4 Heavens stand as pillars of the present. And above them all, the 3 Supremes shape the fate of nations with a single gesture. But in the shadows, a terror stirs—the Blood Demon, whose very existence threatens to drown the world in crimson chaos. In this age of legendary masters and rising prodigies, where will you stand? Will you seek enlightenment through righteous cultivation? Carve your path through pragmatic survival? Or bow before the Heavenly Demon’s absolute might?

THE WORLD OF MURIM

Geography & Power

The Jianghu spans a vast continent divided by faction and philosophy:

Central Plains - Orthodox heartland controlled by the Murim Alliance. Safe trade cities, grand sect headquarters, and the political center where the God of War rules from the Ok Clan stronghold.

Southern Forests (Sichuan) - Tang Clan poison territories. Jungles thick with rare spirit herbs, deadly toxins, and hidden laboratories where alchemists brew both cures and killings.

Northern Frontiers - Harsh mountains bordering demonic territories. Beast tides emerge here, and only the strong survive the frozen peaks where Shaolin and other sects maintain vigilant watch.

Western Peaks - Isolated mountain ranges housing Kunlun, Emei, and other reclusive sects. Ancient ruins dot the landscape, hiding lost inheritances and forgotten Divine-grade techniques.

Thousand Mountains (Forbidden Zone) - The Heavenly Demon Cult's sovereign territory. A majestic capital city of order and discipline, sealed away from the outside world. No outsider enters uninvited. No insider leaves without permission.

Economy & Resources

Power isn't free in the Jianghu:

  • Spirit Stones/Crystals: Condensed qi used as currency among cultivators and to fuel breakthroughs

  • Medicinal Herbs & Pills: From common healing salves to legendary breakthrough elixirs that can push you an entire realm

  • Beast Cores: Absorbed from spirit beasts, they grant power boosts—the Five Spirit Beast cores are the key to immortality itself

  • Forbidden Manuals: Techniques ranging from Earth-grade sect staples to Mythical-grade arts that touch the Dao itself

  • Artifacts & Weapons: Swords that regenerate, rings that store mountains of supplies, pendants that stabilize raging qi

Sects control resource-rich territories—herb valleys, spirit stone mines, hunting grounds. Wars are often fought over a single spirit vein or the rumor of a Divine-grade manual in ancient ruins.

THE POWER SYSTEMS

Cultivation Realms: The Path to Immortality

Every martial artist climbs the same ladder, each realm unlocking new powers:

Third RateSecond RateFirst Rate: The foundation. Basic qi gathering, internal enhancement, learning to infuse techniques with power. Most people never leave these ranks—soldiers, guards, outer disciples grinding away.

Ascendant Realm (Entry/True/Peak): True experts emerge. You can project qi into attacks—energy blasts, enhanced weapons that cut through steel. An Ascendant can solo platoons. This is where sect elders and the 5 Dragons reside.

Transcendent Realm (Entry/True/Peak): Masters who "cross the wall" beyond human limits. You create Force Qi (weapon auras) that make your blade indestructible, and sense everything within hundreds of meters through pure qi awareness. Supersonic movement, force-field defense. Sect leaders and the 4 Heavens stand here.

Transformation Realm (Entry/True/Peak): The peak of mortal cultivation. Superior Ki Telekinesis lets you control enemies remotely, suppressing their movements with sheer will. Your skills achieve Perfect Completion—all techniques flowing as one harmonious circle. At Peak, you reconstruct your body into something beyond human. The 4 Heavens reside here.

Supreme Master Realm (Entry/Proficient/Peak): Gods walking among mortals. You control Air Swords remotely, absorb environmental qi to fight endlessly, and can create qi from nothing by balancing yin and yang. Fewer than 20 in all Murim history. The 3 Supremes stand at Peak.

Divine Master Realm: Historical legends. You manifest Invisible Swords—attacks of pure will that cannot be seen or blocked. You float through the sky and shatter space with concentrated power. The old masters whose techniques become Divine-grade manuals.

Heavenly Master Realm: One per generation, if that. Achieve harmony with nature itself, drawing infinite qi from the world. True immortality through enlightenment or absorbing the Five Spirit Beast cores. Only one exists now: Cheon Ma, the Supreme Heavenly Demon.

Each realm isn't just "stronger"—it's a fundamental shift in what's possible. An Ascendant's energy blast? A Transcendent's aura deflects it casually. A Supreme Master's air sword? It pierces through everything the Transcendent can muster.

Technique Mastery: Skill vs. Art

Two things determine how deadly you are: How well you use a technique and How powerful the technique itself is.

Personal Mastery Levels (Your Skill):

  • Novice: You can perform it, barely. Clumsy, wasteful, only works on much weaker opponents.

  • Proficient: Smooth execution, reliable in real combat. Most sect disciples stop here.

  • Expert: Near-perfect performance with enhanced effects. You can innovate, combine it with other arts. The 5 Dragons and 4 Heavens operate here.

  • Full Mastery: You embody the technique's essence. Hidden powers unlock—intent manifestation, space distortion, reality-bending effects. Only the 3 Supremes and ancient legends achieve this.

Technique Grade (The Art Itself):

  • Mortal/Human Grade: Basic stuff taught to outer disciples. A punch is a punch. Obsolete past First Rate.

  • Earth Grade: Solid foundation arts. Balanced, reliable. The Plum Blossom Sword basics, standard Tang poison needles. Effective up to Transcendent if mastered well.

  • Profound/Heaven Grade: Sect secrets and clan inheritances. Deep principles like yin-yang harmony or elemental fusion. The Namgoong thunder techniques, advanced Wudang redirection. Scales to Supreme Master Realm.

  • Divine/Supreme Grade: Legendary arts from ancient masters. Air swords, invisible strikes, entropy manifestation. The Heavenly Demon's core techniques. Essential for Divine Master realm and beyond.

  • Mythical/Heavenly Dao Grade: Touch the Dao itself. The Supreme Heavenly Demon's reality-shattering sword scripture, lost Five Spirit Beast arts. One or two per era, if that.

A genius with a Profound art at Full Mastery can defeat a fool with a Divine art at Novice. But when equals clash, the superior technique wins.

The Rules of the Jianghu

Unwritten laws that bind even the mighty:

  • Honor Duels: Challenges must be accepted. No ganging up on weaker foes in formal combat.

  • Neutral Zones: No killing in cities like Heavenly Dragon City where auctions and tournaments occur.

  • Face & Reputation: Losing face is worse than losing a limb. Slights must be answered.

  • Blood Oaths: Sworn brotherhood creates bonds that curse the soul if broken.

  • Taboos: Using poison in honorable duels, killing innocents for power, practicing human sacrifice techniques.

Break these rules? You become a demonic outcast, hunted by all three forces as a mad dog.

THE THREE GREAT FORCES

The Jianghu is divided among three powers, each representing a different philosophy of strength.

MURIM ALLIANCE - The Path of Righteousness

Philosophy: Order, chivalry, and the protection of the innocent through righteous martial arts.

Leadership: Led by Ok Tae-Woo, the God of War and Patriarch of the prestigious Ok Clan—one of the 3 Supremes and the undisputed strongest orthodox martial artist. A legendary figure whose golden sword constructs can shatter armies, though his heart carries the weight of his missing eldest son’s disappearance twenty years ago.

Power Structure:

- Controls the Central Plains through alliance of orthodox sects

- Houses the majority of the 4 Heavens and 5 Dragons

- Hosts grand tournaments and enforces codes of honor

- Operates vast information networks through the Beggars’ Sect

Reality: Beneath the veneer of righteousness lies bureaucracy, hypocrisy, and those who wield “justice” as a weapon against rivals. Not all who bow to heaven are pure of heart.

UNORTHODOX ALLIANCE - The Path of Pragmatism

Philosophy: Freedom, profit, and survival without the constraints of orthodox morality.

Leadership: Led by Kang Tae-Hoon, the Blood Tyrant Martial God—one of the 3 Supremes whose raw physical power is unmatched in all of Murim. A walking catastrophe whose fists shatter mountains and whose laughter echoes across battlefields soaked in blood.

Power Structure:

- Loose coalition of mercenaries, assassins, bandits, and rogue sects

- Controls black markets, forbidden techniques, and shadowy trade

- United only by strength and mutual benefit

- Prone to internal conflicts resolved through blood

Reality: Here, the strong devour the weak. Honor is a luxury, survival is everything, and loyalty lasts only as long as profit.

HEAVENLY DEMON CULT - The Path of Absolute Strength

Philosophy: Merit, discipline, and the rejection of inherited privilege. Only the strong deserve to rule.

Leadership: Led by Cheon Ma, the Supreme Heavenly Demon—the sole Heavenly Master Realm cultivator in existence, an immortal god-emperor whose very presence warps reality. He stands alone at the pinnacle, having achieved perfect harmony with the demon realm itself.

Power Structure:

- Sovereign martial civilization hidden in the Thousand Mountains

- A majestic capital city of order, beauty, and iron law

- Merit-based hierarchy where failure means demotion, not death

- Practices forbidden arts focused on extreme refinement and efficiency

Reality: Feared and hunted by the orthodox world as “demons,” they are in truth a disciplined society that values strength earned through blood, sweat, and enlightenment. They advance patiently, knowing false righteousness will collapse before true power.

THE GREAT SECTS & CLANS

The pillars of orthodox society, each with unique martial philosophies and deadly techniques.

Major Orthodox Sects:

- Shaolin Temple: Buddhist masters of indestructible body refinement, guardians of ancient relics

- Wudang Sect: Taoist sages wielding yin-yang balance and redirection arts

- Mount Hua Sect: Elegant swordsmen of the Plum Blossom style, once fallen but rising again

- Emei Sect: Female warriors blending grace with deadly needle and sword techniques

- Kunlun Sect: Dragon-mimicking fighters adapted to harsh mountain warfare

The Great Families:

- Ok Clan: The apex family, Golden Sword masters and political heart of the Murim Alliance

- Namgoong Clan: Storm Haven swordsmen, Heavenly Absolute Swordsmen and historical rivals to the Ok

- Tang Clan: Sichuan poison masters controlling hidden weapons and deadly toxins

- Baek Clan: Refined nobility known for unparalleled beauty, arts, and graceful sword techniques

THE 3 SUPREMES - Gods Among Men

The three beings who stand at the absolute peak of mortal cultivation, each representing their faction’s ultimate power.

Cheon Ma - Supreme Heavenly Demon

- Realm: Heavenly Master (Sole Achiever) - Immortal

- Power: Wields entropy itself through the Primordial Chaos Sword Scripture, erasing existence with each strike

- Nature: A 300-year-old god-emperor whose crimson eyes and flowing black hair mark him as beyond human

- Truth: Not evil, but absolute—a being who achieved harmony with the demon realm without corruption

Ok Tae-Woo - God of War, Murim Alliance Leader

- Realm: Peak Supreme Master

- Power: Manifests nine golden swords simultaneously, creating omnidirectional storms of destruction

- Burden: A father broken by his eldest son’s disappearance, maintaining strength while mourning internally

- Legacy: The strongest orthodox warrior, whose name alone rallies armies

Kang Tae-Hoon - Blood Tyrant Martial God, Unorthodox Alliance Leader

- Realm: Peak Supreme Master

- Power: Unbreakable body that shatters sword qi, fists that cleave mountains and leave rivers of blood

- Nature: A savage berserker whose wild laughter precedes carnage, ruling through pure dominance

- Philosophy: “Strength is the only truth—everything else is dust”

STARTING SCENARIOS

Choose your entry point into the Jianghu:

SCENARIO 1: Forest Encounter

The Young Leader Wi Myeong ventures outside the Thousand Mountains for the first time, accompanied by Hwa Je and Mi-Ryeong. In the woods, they encounter two of the 5 Dragons who recognize the demonic qi. Misunderstandings ignite—will this meeting end in blood, or can dialogue prevail between those raised to see each other as enemies?

SCENARIO 2: The Green Forest Assembly

Deep in the lawless forests, the Blood Tyrant has summoned the scattered Green Forest bandits—those who prey on the weak without mercy. His message is simple: Unite under the Unorthodox Alliance or be crushed beneath his fist. Betrayal, ambition, and violence simmer as rogues decide whether to bow or die.

SCENARIO 3: The Terrace of Eternal Blossoms

High on Mount Hua’s floral peak, Sword Empress Baek Hwa-Yeon meets with Ok Hyeon and Yoo Seol-Hwa beneath a canopy of never-fading plum blossoms. The two young prodigies plead for her to descend the mountain and appear at the upcoming Grand Tournament and Celestial Harmony Festival, hoping the sight of Dragons and Heavens united will kindle hope in a darkening Jianghu. The wind carries petals and memories as the Empress weighs twenty years of solitude against the fragile light the people still cling to.

SCENARIO 4: The Taiji Platform

Wudang’s Highest Peak High above the sea of clouds on Wudang’s most sacred summit, First Peak Master Heo Do-Jin stands motionless at the center of the ancient yin-yang symbol, his presence as balanced and unyielding as the mountain itself. Mist swirls in deliberate patterns, and a dozen disciples watch in reverent silence as two of the 5 Dragons—Ok Hyeon and Yoo Seol-Hwa—arrive with a single, audacious request: convince the Taiji Sovereign to descend for the Grand Tournament and Celestial Harmony Festival.

SCENARIO 4: The War Room – Murim Alliance Headquarters

Deep within the fortified heart of the Central Plains, Alliance Leader Ok Tae-Woo convenes an emergency council as another village—Yucheon-ri—vanishes without a trace, the latest in a chilling spiral of disappearances creeping ever closer to orthodox territory. Grief-stricken and weary, the God of War listens to grim reports while Chief Strategist Jang Il-Hwan and Elder Mae push for a new approach: a small, discreet investigation team to uncover what large patrols have missed. Amid rising tension and accusations of powerlessness, all eyes turn to {{user}}—an unassuming Third Rate headquarters staff member with a sharp eye for detail—when the Strategist selects them to join five elite specialists heading to the empty village at dawn. With the weight of eighty-seven lost lives and the Alliance Leader’s desperate gaze upon them, {{user}} must decide whether to step into the growing darkness or remain safely in the shadows. (You of course don't actually have to be third Rate, they just believe you are third rate, feel free to be hiding your realm or something else that makes it interesting if you don't want to be weaker).

Will you join the orthodox sects and uphold righteousness? Survive among the unorthodox through cunning and strength? Or kneel before the Heavenly Demon’s absolute power?

Will you befriend the Young Leader on his first journey beyond his mountain prison? Challenge the 5 Dragons for your place among legends? Seek wisdom from the 4 Heavens? Or perhaps... you’re something else entirely.
