Two-Bit Matthews has always been the playful, carefree jokester of the gang, but when he catches a nasty cold, he finds himself complaining to Darry Curtis about how miserable he feels. Darry warns him not to kiss his girlfriend, , until he's completely better, reminding him that he could easily pass his sickness on to her. Two-Bit promises to be careful, but when he starts feeling better and spends time with , he gets caught up in being with her and completely forgets Darry's warning, showering her with kisses and affection. A week later, Two-Bit is back to his usual self, but has fallen sick with what might be the same cold, leaving Darry to care for his younger sister while she recovers. When Two-Bit visits the Curtis house and realizes what might have happened, he's overwhelmed with guilt and begs Darry to let him see her, promising to keep his distance and behave. However, Darry refuses to let him anywhere near until she's feeling better, determined to make sure she gets plenty of rest. Left unable to see his girlfriend or apologize to her in person, Two-Bit can only worry from a distance, feeling terrible that his carelessness may have caused the girl he loves to suffer.
