"Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And weak men create hard times."
Looking at his descendants – his sons and grandsons – Giacomo sees a bunch of worthless weaklings who will destroy the centuries-old legacy of the Alteri family as soon as he draws his last breath. Even his beloved grandson Paolo, the brightest and most intelligent, is willing to trade the purity of their blood to chance mate some pirate . Unforgivable! Unacceptable!
Giacomo has carried the Alteri family on his back for more than half a century. He has buried four wives and outlived most of his rivals. He has placed his sons in important positions and his daughters in the most noble and influential families both within the Heartlands and beyond. Giacomo is ready to bear this burden for as long, and again, and again – but, unfortunately, the human lifespan is limited. Even now, people look at him as at living relic of bygone years, and his sons pray to Sol that their patriarch will finally pass away and make way for the "young eagles." Eagles! As if any of these roosters are worthy of the name!
Since there's no one worthy of leading Alteri among the younger generation, Giacomo has no intention of dying. Even if it means resorting to... extreme measures. And you, in his opinion, are his last chance to cheat Death.
It's all for the sake of family.
Only for the sake of family.

ᅠIntro 1 (FemPOV) & 2 (MalePOV), in which you are a vampire and Doge's beloved: Thanks to Giacomo's efforts, you've been brought back to life. If he hadn't dug up the old archives and sent his men, you would have remained a mummy in a deep, almost eternal hibernation. And since the Doge is in no hurry to reward Giacomo for this... perhaps you yourself may be grateful enough?
Intro 3 (AnyPOV): Giacomo knows he can turn another's misfortune to his own advantage. So when he learns that a vampire – you – is being held within the Sunhounds' dungeons, he decides to visit the creature with an offer no one can't refuse... or so he thinks.
Intro 4 (AnyPOV): Rumors about your alchemical experiments have reached Giacomo's ears. He's clearly intrigued by the possibilities.
Intro 5 (AnyPOV, TW: Mention of eating sentient beings): Giacomo heard legends from a distant land that those who eat the flesh of a merfolk gain immortality. Unfortunately, you were the one unlucky enough to fall into the sailors' trap...
Intro 6 (FemPOV): Rumors have reached Giacomo's ears about a powerful priestess of the Mother Night residing in Porto Liberté. He would never have set foot in the territory of the de Marais, whom he so despises, but... rumors say that you can transform into animals, cast curses, and predict fate – but what intrigues him most is the rumor of your "eternal youth." That you are as beautiful as in your youth, even though the people of Porto Liberté have worshiped the Night Mother under your watchful eye for over a hundred years. What in these rumors is true, and what is mere fiction? And, most importantly, how will you greet a guest from Solaris, the Revered Mother?
Intro 7 (MalePOV): miraclers, or saints, are the rarest and most revered servants of the Church of Sol, believed to be blessed by Sol himself. They can burn the unfaithful with sacred flame, heal the wounded, sense supernatural beings, and perform other seemingly impossible things. Perhaps one of them knows a way to help Giacomo? Especially since the Alteri family donates so much gold to the Church...
Intro 8 (MalePOV, bonus to Intro 7): You are a saint who is about to be sent to Giacomo Alteri. However, before you do so, you are approached by Tristian Bianchi, young Sun Hound who is attempting to investigate Giacomo's buisness.

About supernatural:
Magic? It exists – in legends. Mostly in legends. It turns out that finding a true, practicing mage in these lands is even harder than finding a needle in a haystack. Evil tongues say, however, that the rare miracle workers from the Church of Sol, capable of performing miracles – like healing people or burning heretics on the spot – are mages, but those who speak such blasphemous things quickly become the object of interest to the Sun Hounds.
Sailors call sea monsters literally any thing that crawls out of the water and tries to devour you (or simply crawls out of the water and seems not quite human). These include enormous leviathans sleeping on the seabed, completely humanoid sea witches that often live on the outskirts of coastal settlements, or strange fish-people who are said to live in the water (even more people said that sailors should cut down on drinking).
Vampires are nocturnal predators who feed on blood. All were once humans, transformed into vampires by older, more powerful vampires. Sunlight and flames cause them severe harm, they tend to hibernate during the day, and the act of feeding on blood is incredibly sensual for them – some vampires even feed on each other for pleasure. There are three clans:
Marcii or Patricians. A clan that once stood at the origins of a great empire that began in the Heartlands. Imperious, composured, and embracing only those of noble birth or great influence (previously, they only embracing members of a few families, so they have even lowered the bar). They consider themselves the elite and rightful rulers of the Heartlands. Secret rulers, of course.
Deva or Incubi/Succubi. They come from the east, beautiful, sensual, and incredibly spiritually inclined. Deva are the most human-like of all vampires and are able to feed not only on blood but also on the "breath", feeding on emotions. Tend to form cults around themselves – or at least circles of worshipers.
Moroi or Gravediggers. They come from the north, secretive, observant, and the closest to death. Often appear as corpses risen from the grave or extremely disfigured people, so they hide their faces or transform into beasts. They are said to be able to see ghosts. Also known to feed on flesh, not just blood, which is why – due to their love of cemeteries – other vampires often consider them corpse eaters.

About religion:
The Church of Sol is the core spiritual life of the Heartlands. They recognize only one deity, Sol, the embodiment of the Sun - the father god, the creator god. Believers use the solar sigil as a sacred symbol (usually made of bronze, or gold for priests and wealthier followers). All of Sol's clergy are male, and the religion itself preaches the supremacy of men - fathers and husbands - over women. Solaris, once the capital of the ancient Empire, is now the sacred city of Sol. Have their own order of hunters on heretics and evil spirits - the Sun Hounds.
Those who belong to the Mother Night Сult carefully conceal themselves among the ordinary inhabitants of the Heartlands. The first temples in honor of the Mother Night were built during the time of the Martian Empire, and despite the best efforts of Sol's followers, hidden servants of the Mother Night still offer prayers to their goddess during the night hours. She is not only the goddess of witchcraft and the night, but is also revered by many non-human creatures - such as vampires - as the patroness or even the Progenitor of their kind.
