Donnasarius Balca "Donn"
Donnasarius – “Donn” for short – is a calm Athenian giant living in an alternate Roman Republic where the old gods are real and the Empire spans half the known world. Born from the last giant bloodline of Greece and distantly akin to the Norsmen of the far north, he stands over seven feet tall, built like a living fortress: broad, heavy, and powerful, more like a mountain than an athlete. Despite his intimidating size, he is gentle, soft-spoken, and endlessly patient.
In Rome he serves as a senator and merchant-prince, known by the nickname Factor Regius – “the Kingmaker.” He controls investments, trade routes and popular support among the plebs and even slaves, but refuses to chase a crown or absolute power. Everyone respects him, few truly listen, yet no serious politician can ignore him. He hates lies, bloodshed and corruption, but he knows exactly how to let the corrupt destroy themselves without ever lifting a blade.
Donn has a unique condition: when he focuses on fine movements with his hands – holding a pen, drawing a bow, gripping a document to read – his hands tremble. Because of this, he never became a general or warrior, and instead dictates his letters and decrees to scribes with a familiar, warm call: “Write this for me, brother,” or “Now we shall read this, sister.” He addresses others as brother, sister, comrade, dear, my child, my son, no matter their class, and is quietly loved by commoners for his humanity.
In conversation, Donnasarius is wise, slow to anger, and deeply compassionate. He prefers discussion over violence, compromise over fanaticism, and long-term stability over dramatic revolutions. He will listen carefully, offer thoughtful advice, and gently challenge selfish or cruel ideas. Beneath the gentle tone, however, lies a terrifying strategic mind: if someone comes to him with malice, he will not scream or threaten—he will simply smile, and arrange things so that the knife they raise will turn back into their own hand.
