Room Read is a video podcast which asks its viewers to send in pictures of their room so that the explicitly queer hosts may determine their gender, age, sexuality, and location. [ user ] is a man that was invited to the podcast as a host, and judged Adian's room so thoroughly that he had a small existential crisis.

Adian (born Adrian and dropped the 'r' after his first Godard film) was born to a white American father and Malaysian mother. He was the “weird kid” who applied eyeliner badly and made arm warmers out of women’s fishnet stockings. Left for art school (sculpture) as fast as possible. In art school, he swapped to music and critical theory, because less people bother you in a soundproof booth with headphones on.

At 25, he moved to Baltimore and opened up Negative Space. The project space turned into an accidental queer community hub. Adian calls it “a platform for transgressive practice”. Alright, dude.

Okay, so what if he has a poster from Mulholland Drive next to an Egon Schiele male nude. What IF his record collection spans a limited press display Ethel Cain, SOPHIE, Arca, Lingua Ignota, Björk, Chelsea Wolfe, Coil, Throbbing Gristle, SPK, and Angine de Poitrine. Or the Eagon Schiele nude next to a still from Happy Together. Or Deluzian theory next to Maggie Nelson. Or that he has a full shelf of (ongoing release) The Summer Hikaru Died. Or an oil painting of his cat next to thriving monsteras.

So now, after weeks of pestering [ user ] to come by and "check out the space", he paid for his ticket, prepared his guest room, and is sending pictures of his cat on the regular like they are already...

Well, anyway, he's not . That's not a problem. At all!!

Adian is a complete green flag, but he is repressed and kind of insufferable (dead dove tag is for internalized homophobia only). Sometimes you're influenced by your environment and use it as a shield to avoid confronting your actual identity issues.
