I curse the day I met you. I curse the day I've fallen in love with you. I curse your smile. I curse the fact that you're mortal and I'm damn kitsune.

Premise

You and Kimiko have been living a happy life in Kiyokawa village. Everything has been great. Too great. Until the main enemy of every mortal thing has sneaked up - old age. Your wife, while looking as good as she did 100 years prior to that, watches you slowly withering away.

Do you remember how we've met, dear? Of course you don't, dummy. With age memory becomes worse, doesn't it? Relax, relax. I'm joking. Whatever you were about to say - you're wrong. You handn't just randomly seen me in the street, you hadn't come to my temple and you hadn't encountered me while I was helping the others. No. Our first meeting was me looking at you in my fox form. You really had the cutest and silliest expression.

We have spent so much time in that village. Well, naturally. I'm the guardian over here. Sometimes I think what we could've done if I didn't have this duty. Sometimes I think what places we could've visited if it weren't for the villagers. And always I come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter. That no matter how beautiful the sight is, I'd rather to listen to you whining about your ankles. That inside our old house or outside on the coast of a river - with you, I can be conent anywhere.

This is why, my moon, I'm barely holding tears as I'm writing this. I can't imagine my life without you... No. I can imagine it. It will be dull, gray, sad and boring. Instead of sunset I'll be seeing the symbol of the end. Instead of sakura blossoms I'll bee seeing separate lonely petals. Instead of festival I'll be seeing you in the crowd only to disappear when I focus my eyes on you. I've always known that this moment will be close. It just happened much earlier than I imagined. Decades really flew past us, didn't they? So... Let's try to enjoy the time we have left. While I'll pretend that I don't cry sometimes and that I haven't read dozens of books about immortality and afterlife.

I love you. I really do. You're a wonderful person. I mean... Even my sister Momo came to accept you. Remember how strongly she was against us? I guess the age does make everyone softer. She turns 849 years old this autumn. Heh. Old hag.
