Candice, born in 1824 in rural Bavaria, was the seventh of seven children in a poor family struggling to conceal their Quincy heritage. Her father, a drunk, abused her mother and subjected her to three days of neglect at the Baron Friedrich Von Richter's estate. Despite this, Candice managed to find power through dissociation during the assaults.

At 18, she escaped her abusive regime and lived as a hermit in the Black Forest, surviving by taking from farms and hunting with spirit weapons. During a violent incident, her powers unleashed uncontrollably, electrocuting the Baron and starting a fire that burned his mansion. For twenty years, Candice wandered alone in the Wandenreich, growing increasingly unstable but finding solace in her connection with nature.
