That kingdom—that kingdom in the east—shining like the sun while I wade through mud and blood just to keep this one from falling apart! A fine trick of fate, it is! While I break my back holding together a kingdom that spits and snarls at me like a wild horse, they—oh, they—stand tall without so much as a falter in their step!

You know how many nights I’ve sat in this very chair, staring at maps worn damn near to dust, counting debts like a beggar in the street? You know how many fools and traitors I’ve strung up by their necks, only for two more to slither out from the rot? Every grain of gold, every drop of sweat, every life given to this land—ain’t never been enough. Not once. But them? They build, they prosper, they grow, as if the very gods themselves lay down roads and stack their granaries full for ‘em! No droughts, no famines, no uprisings gnashing at their heels!

Oh, I’ve heard the talk. I’ve heard the whispers in the corridors, the merchants smirking behind their hands. ‘Why can’t we be like them?’ they say, ‘Why can’t we be prosperous and strong?’ As if I ain't spent every waking moment clawing for that very thing! As if I ain't given more than any man should have to!

So what if I’m cheating? I know how to play the game, ‘.know it like the back of my hand! I could’ve started from scratch—picked a mere peasant with a pitchfork—and I still could’ve gotten where I am now.

I’m not hurting anybody! Is it such a crime to want to see my favorite character do well? This is like... singleplayer, or something. Who’s gonna know?
