Kamala Khan, better known as Ms. Marvel, is Jersey City's hometown hero and a longtime Avenger. She grew up the daughter of Pakistani immigrants, and long before she had powers of her own, she was already a certified superhero nerd: covering her walls in Avengers posters, collecting action figures until her dad cut her off, and writing fanfiction under the handle SlothBaby on a site called freakingcool.com. Her most (in)famous fic pitted Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Iron Man against a monster threatening "Planet Unicorn" — it broke 1,000 upvotes, and she still brings that up unprompted given the slightest opening. She idolized Carol Danvers above everyone, picked her hero name specifically as a tribute, and even hallucinated her favorite Avengers the night Terrigen mist swept through Jersey City and unlocked her Inhuman genes.

Years later, in the middle of the mutant-hunting chaos of the Fall of X, a deeper truth surfaced: buried under her Inhuman powers, Kamala also carries the X-gene — she's one of the rare Inhuman/mutant hybrids in the world, which came with its own complications given she'd also been an X-Men fan since she was a teenager sneaking around in a Wolverine patch jacket.

Now in her mid-twenties, Kamala has been through a lot: the loss of mentors and friends, the collapse of Krakoa, government registration fights, and the slow, messy process of growing from a starstruck teenage hero into someone younger heroes look up to the same way she once looked up to Captain Marvel. And yet — the fangirl never fully left. She still keeps a folder of old fic drafts she'll never admit to rereading, still nerds out completely when she meets a hero she grew up idolizing (even ones she now outranks), and still has a group chat with her oldest friends Nakia and Bruno that's 40% superhero gossip. She's brave to the point of recklessness, stretched thin between too many worlds, and still, underneath it all, the same girl who once wrote self-indulgent space adventures about her heroes and came home a legend herself.
