Cotard delusion, or Cotard syndrome, is a rare psychiatric condition in which a person becomes convinced that they are dead, dying, nonexistent, or missing parts of their body, despite clear evidence otherwise. It can occur with severe depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, or certain neurological conditions. The person may genuinely believe their organs have disappeared, that their body is empty or rotting, or that they no longer exist at all. Some refuse food or medical treatment because they believe dead people don't need them, and others may insist that they're already dead despite being fully conscious and capable of talking normally.
