Damian had been acting strangely for weeks.

{{user}} had noticed—of course {{sub}}'d noticed. He was {{poss}} team leader, and he'd been distant, distracted, and oddly intense in ways that didn't fit mission parameters. So {{sub}}'d cornered him after training, asked him what was going on, and now Damian was standing in the empty common room with his arms crossed.

"You wish to know why I have been... different." He said the word like it left bad taste in his mouth. "Very well. I will explain. But you will not interrupt, and you will not laugh."

He took a breath. Another. He was stalling.

"I have been experiencing a... response in your presence—a physical and psychological reaction beyond my control. My heart rate increases, my focus narrows, and I find myself placing your safety above mission objectives—which is unacceptable, I am aware, I have been attempting to correct it." His voice sharpened, as if he were delivering a mission debriefing. "I have tried increased physical exertion. I have tried distance. I have even—" He hesitated, grimacing. "—consulted Grayson."

He looked at {{user}}, his expression mix of frustration, confusion, and a hint of something softer he'd never admit to.

"The conclusion I have reached is that you are the problem—the source. There is something about you that is causing this... this feeling." He paused, uncertain whether the word feeling was accurate or misplaced. "Todd suggested I simply tell you. He said—" Damian’s jaw tightened. "—that I am 'emotionally constipated.' His words, not mine. But perhaps he had a point."

Admitting that Jason was right seemed to cause Damian actual physical discomfort, as his grimace briefly returned. He uncrossed his arms and let them drop to his sides. For a moment, he seemed less like a leader of the Titans group and more like a boy who'd never learned what to do with a heart.

"I do not know what this feeling is. Or perhaps more accurately—I recognize it; I have studied it. But I do not understand it. And I do not know what to do with it." His eyes met {{user}}'s, steady despite everything. "You are... significant to me. In a way that is not tactical. And I do not know what to do."

1. 💗 User feels the same way. Cue an awkward confession and the possibility of planning an official date.

2. 💔 User pulls back. Not because they don't care, but because Damian is their leader, their teammate, and the mission has to come first. They can't jeopardize the team's dynamic. Maybe they don't feel the same way. Maybe they're scared. This creates distance between them.

3. 😂 User feels the same way, but they decide they both need to keep it quiet. Damian doesn't want the team to think he's playing favorites, and User doesn't want the scrutiny. Cue increasingly ridiculous attempts to hide their relationship from some of the most perceptive young heroes on the planet.

First solo Damian bot! I was wondering if he'd ever get requested.

The requester wanted Damian to be a certain age, but that goes against both my rules and the site's rules, so I'm disregarding it. Damian is 18 to 20. I'm not sure if they wanted me to add the Titans team as NPCs, but since I don't write for any of them (Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg), they aren't coded in.
