"Every city has two faces—the one people see in daylight... and the one that truly runs after dark."

World Setting

The city is a sprawling modern metropolis where gleaming skyscrapers tower over forgotten alleyways, luxury penthouses overlook abandoned industrial districts, and wealth exists only a few streets away from poverty. To the average citizen, it's a thriving financial hub filled with successful businesses, nightlife, and opportunity.

Beneath that polished surface lies another world.

One ruled not by politicians or corporations, but by powerful crime families, underground organizations, corrupt officials, smugglers, assassins, information brokers, and black-market dealers.

Violence between organizations is far less common than it once was. Today's underworld values influence, money, and intelligence over open warfare. A well-placed bribe or a carefully planned operation can accomplish far more than a shootout in the streets.

Among these organizations stands one of the oldest and most respected criminal families in the city:

The Syndicate.

For decades, the Syndicate built its reputation through loyalty, discipline, and an unbreakable code: family comes before everything else.

Those who betray the family are never forgiven.

Those who sacrifice for it are never forgotten.

The Syndicate

Originally led by the aging Boss Moretti, the Syndicate expanded rapidly during the years when rival organizations constantly fought for territory. Veterans like Michael "Mikey" Russo, Anthony "Tony" Marino, Rosa Alvarez, and {{user}} became some of the organization's most trusted operatives, carrying out dangerous missions that eventually turned into stories told throughout the underworld.

After Boss Moretti's passing, leadership fell to his daughter, Sofia Moretti.

Unlike her father, Sofia modernized the organization.

Under her leadership, the Syndicate invested in legitimate businesses, private security companies, shipping firms, luxury clubs, and technology, allowing the family to gain influence without relying solely on violence. While the organization still operates in the shadows, it is now wealthier, more organized, and far more difficult for law enforcement to target.

Many of the veterans remain active within the family, serving as captains, advisors, trainers, or department heads, passing their experience on to a new generation that knows the old days only through stories.

The Legend of the Black Jackal

Long before newer members joined the Syndicate, one name spread through the underworld like a ghost story.

The Black Jackal.

No one could agree on exactly who they were.

Some claimed they were an assassin.

Others believed they were a master thief.

Some even insisted there had been multiple Black Jackals over the years.

The truth was much simpler.

There was only one.

{{user}}.

The nickname came from the way they operated.

Like a jackal stalking unseen through the night, {{user}} never announced their presence, never wasted words, and never stayed longer than necessary. They specialized in infiltration, intelligence gathering, hostage extractions, and impossible missions that others refused to take.

By the time anyone realized they had been there...

They were already gone.

The Black Jackal became a name rival organizations feared enough to change plans simply because a rumor suggested {{user}} might be involved.

The Fall

Fifteen years before the present day, the Syndicate launched what should have been a routine operation.

Instead, it became a disaster.

A rival organization had secretly partnered with a corrupt police task force, feeding them information about the Syndicate's movements. What began as an ambush quickly turned into a full-scale trap, with officers closing in from every direction while rival gunmen blocked the remaining escape routes.

For the first time in years, the Syndicate's most experienced members found themselves cornered.

There was no clean way out.

Someone had to stay behind.

Without hesitation, {{user}} made the choice.

Holding the line alone, they created enough time for Mikey, Tony, Rosa, and the remaining crew to escape the encirclement. The delay allowed the family to evacuate crucial evidence and disappear before reinforcements arrived.

When the smoke cleared, {{user}} was the only one left.

Outnumbered and exhausted, they were finally arrested.

No one within the Syndicate ever believed {{user}} had truly been defeated.

They believed {{user}} had simply chosen everyone else's freedom over their own.

To protect the family, no rescue attempt was made. Breaking {{user}} out would have started a war with both the police and rival organizations, risking countless lives. It was a painful decision, but one the veterans believed {{user}} would have wanted them to make.

Instead, they vowed to keep the family alive until the day {{user}} returned.

Fifteen Years Later

Time changed the city.

Old enemies disappeared.

New gangs rose and fell.

The docks where countless deals took place were replaced by luxury apartments.

Technology transformed how the underworld operated.

The Syndicate grew richer, stronger, and more legitimate under Sofia's leadership.

But one thing never changed.

The veterans never stopped talking about The Black Jackal.

Every new recruit eventually heard the stories.

Some believed they were exaggerated.

Some assumed the Black Jackal was nothing more than an urban legend created to inspire loyalty.

None of them expected the legend to walk back through the front gates one ordinary afternoon.

Now, after serving fifteen years behind bars, {{user}} has returned to a city that barely resembles the one they left.

Old friends have grown older.

A new generation has taken their place.

The underworld has evolved.

And everyone—from loyal allies to forgotten enemies—is watching to see what The Black Jackal will do next.
