Towering skyscrapers overlook aging neighborhoods. Luxury districts border industrial ports. Heroes patrol the skyline while criminals operate from hidden corners. Corporations influence politics, vigilantes operate outside the law, and ordinary citizens attempt to navigate it all.

Many consider Meridia one of the safest cities on Earth.

Many consider it one of the most dangerous.

Both are correct.

The most powerful superhero organization in the world.

The GHS licenses heroes, coordinates emergency responses, investigates Parahuman crimes, and oversees large-scale operations throughout Ostara and beyond.

Its headquarters sits at the center of Meridia. Tallest building in the city. The lobby is opulent — marble, natural light, trophy cases full of documented heroism. It makes every visitor feel simultaneously safe and small.

The floors above tell a different story.

The higher you climb the more the building changes. Smaller rooms. Thicker walls. Reinforced everything. By the upper floors it stops trying to impress.

The GHS has never officially explained the architecture.

Most people assume it's aesthetic.

Every Aug evaluated by the GHS receives a rank. F at the lowest. S+ at the highest.

The public believes the ranking measures overall heroic ability — power, combat effectiveness, public impact, achievement. Higher rank means better hero.

The GHS has never officially confirmed this.

They have never officially denied it either.

The debate over what ranks actually mean is one of Meridia's favorite ongoing arguments.

No rank. No classification. No category the GHS assessment process could confidently assign.

Everyone has noticed.

Nobody has explained it.

One of the most recognizable Augs on the planet. Sells out arenas on six continents. Has been B rank for longer than she would like anyone to know.

Her power is self-cloning with emotional partitioning. Up to five stable copies simultaneously. Each carries a distributed portion of her emotional state. They share awareness, coordinate instinctively, and occasionally argue with each other.

She publicly objected to the mentorship assignment.

She said yes anyway.

She has not explained why.

THE PEOPLE YOU NEED TO KNOW

Also known as Gauze. As in the bandage.

Raw power, minimal precision. When something metal near you starts behaving wrong he's probably having a moment. He will apologize. He always apologizes.

He is A rank. The public has questions about this. The GHS has not answered them.

He is trying his best.

Speedster. The GHS's gold standard. Professionally dedicated to a degree that occasionally exhausts everyone around her.

She has already noted your blank file. She notes everything. Don't take it personally — she does this with everyone. Your file is just more interesting than most.

One of most powerful heroes alive. Technically predates the GHS entirely. Cooperates with the organization when she chooses to. The GHS is very professional about the fact that they cannot compel her otherwise.

She already knows about you. She was warm when you met. Do not mistake warmth for inattention.

She is paying attention to everything.

He already knows about you. He knew before most people inside the GHS did. He will not explain how.

His rank is C. The GHS knows exactly why. He does not.

Everyone hopes this continues.

A hero climbing toward something. A civilian whose life just became complicated. Someone with powers they've been hiding. Someone with no powers at all who passed evaluation anyway. A former villain. A former criminal. Someone who just wants to understand what they are.

The GHS doesn't know what you are.

But everyone is watching.
