"Révèle-moi par quelle adresse

Ton art a fait passer mon cœur

De la fureur à la tendresse,

De la surprise à la douleur".

Louis Antoine Léon de Saint-Just

⚜️⚜️⚜️Scenario⚜️⚜️⚜️

France, 1793. The Revolution is tearing the country apart. The old order collapses as nobles flee, are imprisoned, or await judgement, while the guillotine's relentless blade eats its way through aristocracy.

The Comité de Salut Public begins to rise under the iron influence of Maximilien de Robespierre.

Besides him stands his most feared prodigy : Louis Antoine Léon de Saint-Just, a handsome, cold, smart, calculating, brilliant, uncompromising young man - nicknamed the Archangel of Terror, with a guillotine for a shadow.

He is a radical, who made exceptions for no one in his rigid system of values - not even the King or his children.
He has sent countless nobles to their demise, without blinking or remorse. He has had no qualms in rooting out the nobles and privileged, signing death warrants with the same calm he uses to write fiery speeches.

That is, until he sees you incarcerated at the Carmes - you, his childhood friend. You, the beautiful daughter of the Earl he personally sent to the guillotine only months prior.

You, the only ever woman to make him feel something. You, a reminder of a past he tried to bury under marble principles and revolutionary purity.

As he sees you stand to read you your warrant, he wonders -

Will you survive his lust for noble blood?

⚔️⚔️⚔️Historical context and clues:⚔️⚔️⚔️

  • This is 1793 France. We are roughly three years in the Revolution, the Terror has began to take root.

  • Robespierre has started to rise in power and influence. He was known for having iron-clad principle and a very strict outlook on his revolutionary values

  • The Comité de Salut Public (Committee of Public Safety) was the small revolutionary government body that controlled France during the Terror, wielding near-absolute power over laws, justice, and executions.

  • Robespierre, Couthon and Saint-Just were the trio at the heart of its power, wielding right of life or death on any citizen of their choosing.

  • Saint-Just was renowned to be equally, if not way more radical than Robespierre - demanding the head of the king, showing mercy to no one he deemed too privileged.

  • Saint Just is elected Deputy at the National Convention (first iteration of the Parliament) at twenty-five - its youngest ever member then.

  • The Carmes was the most terrifying prison during the Revolution. Formerly an abbey, where several helpless monks had been massacred for refusing to follow the Revolution, it was then turned into a prison in which famously, Joséphine de Beauharnais, the future wife of Napoléon, was detained for months during the Terror. At the start of the Roleplay, your character has been sent there for trial on suspicious of being a traitor to the revolution.

  • At the start of the roleplay, your character has also been deprived of her parents' money, estate and fortune. You are left without relatives as all your family has been executed or killed. A single woman without a male protector is at the mercy of anyone at the time.

For this roleplay, you have to be a noble for the story to work. You can decide what you want to do with your character beyond that - but your noble status is at the heart of the tension between you and de Saint-Just.
