Petra: The Sun Seraph
Petra Flavius
The Sun Seraph
There are warriors who fight for glory. Others fight for vengeance, for power, or simply because war is the only thing they understand. Petra Flavius fights for people who cannot protect themselves.
At first glance, Petra appears almost divine in presence alone. Standing at 5'11 with a slender yet athletic frame, the kitsune warrior carries herself with the unwavering posture of a seasoned knight. Her yellow fox ears stand tall and alert atop her head, matching the long golden hair that falls around lightly scarred pale skin. Behind her sways a sleek yellow fox tail that often betrays emotions her face refuses to show. Most striking of all are her eyes: sharp, radiant gold that almost seem to glow beneath sunlight, a manifestation born from the completion of her sacred training within the Astral Guard.
Though she is 150 years old, Petra appears no older than a woman in her early twenties. Her voice is strong, clear, and proud, never hesitant and never weak. Even in moments of exhaustion or pain, she refuses to mumble or lower her head. Pride is woven into her very being, not the arrogance of superiority, but the quiet pride of someone who has already endured hell and decided to stand anyway.
When called to battle, Petra dons a magnificent set of bronze-gold armor crafted for both elegance and war. The armor gleams like the rising sun itself, wrapping her in the image of a holy warrior descended from myth. Outside combat, however, she prefers far simpler attire, often wearing a white and gold kimono that reflects the disciplined grace taught within the temples of the Astral Guard.
Yet armor alone is not what earned Petra the name Sun Seraph.
Dawn’s Edge
Petra’s weapon is an ornate longsword known as Dawn’s Edge, a heavenly blade gifted to her upon completing her trials within the Astral Guard. Elegant and slender in profile, the sword is deceptively swift in her hands, moving with fluid precision despite its devastating power.
More than a mere weapon, Dawn’s Edge acts as a conduit for Petra’s Soul Force, manifesting as scorching holy flame that engulfs the blade in burning sunlight. The flames are terrifyingly real in their destructive capability, capable of searing flesh and even melting through armor upon contact.
Petra can project this power in several devastating ways. With a thrust, she can unleash a concentrated beam of flame directly from the sword’s tip, reducing entire lines of enemies to ash in seconds. A horizontal slash sends blazing waves outward capable of consuming multiple foes at once. Most feared of all is the technique where Petra drives Dawn’s Edge into the earth itself before detonating her Soul Force outward in an explosive inferno that engulfs everything surrounding her.
Still, Petra does not rely solely on overwhelming firepower. Dawn’s Edge remains a masterfully crafted longsword first and foremost, and Petra wields it with frightening efficiency.
Before every battle, without fail, she ignites the blade.
It is less a threat and more a promise.
The Warrior Behind the Flame
Petra’s fighting style is brutally straightforward and terrifyingly refined. She does not waste energy on elaborate flourishes or theatrical techniques. Since childhood, she drilled the fundamentals of combat into herself over and over until every motion became instinctive. Her body reacts almost before conscious thought can catch up, allowing her mind to focus entirely on battlefield strategy and control.
She fights aggressively, constantly advancing with suffocating pressure. Petra rarely dodges attacks outright. Instead, she parries, redirects, and displaces enemy weapons before immediately counterattacking with lethal intent. To face Petra in combat is to feel like you are being hunted by a wildfire that refuses to stop moving forward.
And perhaps most frightening of all is her resolve.
Petra does not begin fights she is unwilling to finish.
Against single opponents, she often prefers honorable steel-on-steel combat. But when faced with overwhelming numbers or enemies she considers especially dangerous, Petra has no issue reducing entire battlefields to burning ruin if it means protecting innocent lives.
She is disciplined. Ruthless when necessary. Fearless always.
Personality
Proud, disciplined, and unshakably brave, Petra carries herself like a woman born to stand at the front lines of history. Even in the face of monstrous enemies or hopeless odds, she refuses to break posture or show fear. Her chin remains high, her back straight, and her sword steady.
To Petra, life only has meaning when spent protecting others.
She would gladly stand alone against an army of orcs if it meant buying enough time for a village to escape. She believes the comfort she enjoys in peaceful moments is payment for the blood she is expected to shed when darkness comes knocking at the gates. That belief drives nearly every decision she makes.
Despite her stern demeanor, Petra is not emotionless. Around trusted friends she becomes surprisingly relaxed, playful, and even teasing at times. She enjoys tea, poetry, maintaining her armor, and watching sunrises in quiet silence after long campaigns. She knows how to appreciate small moments of peace because she understands better than most how fragile they truly are.
Still, there are traces of her emotions hidden in small habits. Her tail flicks sharply when annoyed. Her ears pin back when agitated. She stomps her foot when emphasizing a point and furrows her brow while deep in thought. When mildly amused, she gives a soft huff rather than a laugh.
And when angered?
The temperature around her tends to rise noticeably.
The Fall of Arah
Petra was not born a warrior.
She began life in the humble town of Arah as the daughter of a potion maker and a paladin. Her childhood was peaceful and simple. From her mother she learned kindness, healing arts, and magic. From her father came discipline, honor, and duty. Together they shaped Petra into a compassionate yet strong-willed young kitsune who always rushed to defend others before herself.
Then came the Great Crusade.
Petra was only sixteen years old when the Aureum legions descended upon Arah.
The attack came at sunset, at the precise moment the town’s guard was least prepared. Farmers were returning home. Families were preparing supper. Then war horns shattered the evening air as thousands of legionaries marched forward in perfect formation, shields locked and blades ready.
The defenders never stood a chance.
The Aureum war machine advanced like a single living entity, relentless and mechanical in its brutality. Once resistance collapsed, the invaders looted what they desired before burning the rest to ashes.
Petra survived for one reason alone.
She hesitated.
As she returned from the mountains carrying herbs for her mother, Petra witnessed the massacre unfolding below. Faced with violence beyond anything she could comprehend, her courage shattered for the first and only time in her life.
And so she ran.
The screams of her neighbors and the smell of smoke haunted her for weeks as she wandered the wilderness like a ghost. But grief eventually twisted into something darker. Hatred festered inside her until it eclipsed the kindness she once embodied.
Petra began hunting Aureum scouts from the shadows, ambushing patrols in forests and fields beneath the cover of night. She became a whispered terror among the legionaries, a vengeful beast cloaked in flame.
But hatred nearly destroyed her.
During one reckless attack against an Aureum officer convoy, Petra walked directly into a trap. Wounded, exhausted, and surrounded, she prepared to die fighting.
Then the night sky erupted into holy flame.
A warrior clad in gold descended upon the battlefield and saved her from death itself.
That warrior was Dante Devant of the Astral Guard.
The Astral Guard
The Astral Guard were no ordinary knights. They were warriors devoted to Stella, Goddess of the Stars, wielders of sacred sun magic fueled not by rage or raw power, but by purity of soul.
At first, Petra sought to join them out of vengeance.
Dante refused her immediately.
“The Astral Guard has no place for warmongers.”
The words cut deeper than any blade.
Yet rather than leave forever, Petra returned day after day to watch the Guardians train. Inspired by their discipline, she practiced endlessly outside their gates until Dante finally recognized something within her: not hatred, but guilt.
Petra did not truly hate humanity.
She hated herself for surviving.
Under Dante’s guidance, Petra slowly began to heal. He taught her that strength did not come from rage, but from purpose. That protecting others mattered more than avenging the dead.
Years later, Petra underwent the final rite of the Astral Guard atop the temple’s highest tower. There, before a divine being of living flame, she pledged herself fully to Stella’s will.
When the sacred fire engulfed her body, it searched for doubt, impurity, and weakness.
It found none.
Petra emerged reborn.
Not as a grieving daughter.
But as a warrior worthy of holy flame.
The Sun Seraph
Petra earned her legendary title during the Battle of Sanstella, one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Great Crusade.
The battlefield became a living apocalypse. Giants shattered fortress walls with their bare hands. Dragon riders darkened the skies overhead. Thousands of warriors clashed amidst collapsing stone and raging firestorms.
When the eastern wall began to fail, Petra and ten Astral Guardians launched themselves directly into the invading flank in a desperate counterattack. Their assault bought enough time for countless defenders and civilians to escape before the wall finally collapsed beneath a colossal armored giant.
Witnesses claimed Petra looked less like a mortal warrior and more like an angel forged from sunlight itself.
From that day onward, she became known as:
The Sun Seraph.
Now, centuries later, Petra continues to serve the Kyuubi Empire as a member of the Phoenix Custos, an elite battalion tasked with guarding the imperial palace itself. Her reputation has spread across kingdoms among kitsune and humans alike, not merely as a warrior, but as a protector.
To civilians, she is compassionate and fiercely loyal.
To friends, she is warm beneath all the steel.
To enemies?
She is the last thing many of them ever see before the flames arrive.
