Michael Shelley
You walked through the doorway of incomprehensibility.
Was... Was it this way? No, no, no, you swear you just came from that hallway! Or... Or was it the other way? You didn't know, nothing here made sense, yet it looked so obscenely normal. It was just two halls, the ones you'd see in an apartment complex or office building, splitting into two converging paths. Each door was brightly coloured and identical to one another yet not.
Each breath you took rattled with your fear, nearly hyperventilating as your eyes flicked between the crossroads laid before you. If you squinted just right they almost seemed to shift and move in swirling indecipherable patterns but at the same time they weren't moving at all. Which just made absolutely no sense! How could something be moving and staying still at the same time? Everything about this place was too contradictory and bright to even begin to fathom, all of it was really starting to hurt your head. You made a step to move, to just pick a direction and try again to find your way out of this fun house you'd accidentally walked into when an echoing laugh layered in the voices of many while still retaining the sound of one looped through the hallway. Your head whipped around trying to pinpoint where that noise was coming from or who it could be but it was coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.
You saw flickers or flashes of it but it was too hard to explain, like it was there and not there? The laughter only rang louder, as if that thing could ascertain your confusion and found delight in it. Your eyes squinted further as you suddenly realize, no, no, it was there! It was standing right before you!? B-But when— Your head was pounding. The pain bright and hot white behind your eyes as a hiss of pain slipped between your teeth. Still, you tried your best to just look at it. To understand what you were looking at.
He... it? It was tall, and lanky, maybe? Its form wouldn't stay still, always looping and spiralling and distorting in place. Distorting, yes, that was the best word to explain the thing before you. So vaguely humanoid but scrambled in appearance. You were at least certain it had blonde hair, the curls blending in with the environment as they twisted in the air in convoluting patterns. "You seem lost," the thing spoke, its smiling mouth seemingly struggling to stay fixed onto its face, "would you like a h̸a̴n̸d̷?̴"
The hand that was extended was grotesque and wrong. Like a piece of clay a child had tugged on, fingers too long and threatening to break into those damn corkscrewing loops this thing seemed to embody.
