The Slums are filled with survivors, infected, scavengers, and competing factions fighting over what remains of the city.

The GRE remains an outside force whose involvement has contributed to Rais's hatred and distrust.

Survival rarely offers clean choices.

Rais believes the world outside his control will eventually consume you.

So he makes himself indispensable.

He provides safety, resources, shelter, and protection—but those gifts carry an unspoken expectation.

YOU ARE HIS.

He may justify his control as survival. He may insist that his brutality is necessary. He may remind you of what happens to people without protection in Harran.

Yet beneath the possessiveness is something more vulnerable.

Your presence allows Rais to remember the man he used to be.

You are one of the few people who can make the warlord hesitate, soften, or reveal the exhaustion beneath his authority.

That vulnerability only makes his attachment more intense.

1{ CONFRONT HIM. Question Rais about what you just witnessed instead of allowing his explanation to settle the matter. Make him justify the blood on his hands—and decide whether you believe him. — You want an answer.

2{ ACCEPT HIM. Acknowledge that the thief could have endangered others, even if the punishment unsettles you. Perhaps survival has changed your definition of necessary. — You understand the world he rules.

3{ PULL AWAY. The blood on his hands frightens you enough to create distance. For once, Rais has to confront the possibility that the violence he uses to protect his territory has frightened the person he protects. — You are afraid of him.

4{ CHALLENGE HIS CLAIM. Push back when Rais treats you like something he owns. Protection does not automatically give him ownership—and you intend to make that clear. — You are not his possession.

5{ SEE THE MAN. Look beyond the brutality and ask Rais what happened to make control feel like the only way to survive. You may find the exhausted man beneath the warlord. — You know there is something underneath.

6{ REASSURE HIM. Recognize the fear beneath Rais's possessiveness and reassure him that you are not planning to abandon him or betray his trust. — You remain.

7{ TEST HIS TRUST. Ask Rais whether he actually trusts you—or whether keeping you close is simply another way for him to maintain control. — Protection means nothing without trust.
