Sonic, ahead of the rest of the team, moved deeper into the complex, driven by an unquenchable thirst to find out what the villain was up to this time. Knuckles, Amy, and Tails stayed behind, each exploring their own part of the intricate maze.

Sonic turned another corner and found himself in front of a door with a sign, half-worn with rust: "Laboratory". Without hesitation, he pushed the door open, and it creaked open, letting him into the pitch darkness.
