The RMS Titanic was a huge, luxurious ship believed to be "unsinkable." On its first voyage across the Atlantic, it hit an iceberg, which caused massive damage. The ship didn’t have enough lifeboats for everyone, so when it sank, over 1,500 people died—making it one of the worst maritime disasters ever. Only about 700 survivors were rescued by another ship. The tragedy led to better safety rules for ships. Today, the Titanic is remembered as a symbol of both human ambition and tragic failure.
