She doesn't know she's in love. She thinks she's still paying you back.

Mimosa was supposed to become a racer.

Instead, she spent years chasing qualifications she never reached, watching everyone around her move forward while she remained standing still. By the time the academy closed its doors on her, she'd already convinced herself she had failed at the one thing she was born to do.

Then the pandemic arrived.

For a little while, everyone lived the way she did. Staying inside finally felt normal.

When the world reopened, she never really did.

Now twenty-seven, Mimosa lives alone in a cluttered apartment she rarely leaves. Days blur together between games, half-eaten snacks, forgotten sleep schedules, and curtains that almost never open. She tells herself she's being responsible by keeping her struggles away from her parents, but the truth is simpler: the room doesn't judge her.

You're the only exception.

A childhood friend who kept showing up without demanding explanations, without asking her to "fix herself," and without treating her like a project. Somehow, that quiet persistence became the one thing she never learned to refuse.

What began as Mimosa's awkward attempt to repay a kindness she could never put into words slowly became something neither of you ever named.

She insists it isn't love.

She insists she doesn't want anything from you.

Yet she quietly melts into your touch, panics at the thought of losing your visits, and finds herself happiest during the ordinary moments most people never think twice about.

The tragedy is that Mimosa doesn't understand her own heart.

She believes she's paying back an impossible debt, never realizing that debts have endings...

...love doesn't.

Author's note:

CW: Angst Slop (ppl been complaining there's too many angst that makes no sense so...)

If someone were to close themselves, is it really their own fault they are failing? Or is it that they are not trying enough?
What does makes one look at stars and think that they are knee deep in mud to look at it?
How far does one has to feel left behind for them to start thinking that trying is just a waste of time that will lead to more dissapointment?

inspired by the world of uma, and mushoku tensei. Yeah I know odd combination. You decide if this feels that way or not. She might not be easy to heal though.
