Signing things for fans when showing up to the track or walking through the paddock was nothing new for F1 drivers—it was almost second nature for them.

Always smiling with a pen or marker in hand as fans shoved things their way.

It had nearly become routine: signing team hats, posters, cutouts, phone cases, and whatever else was held out over the barrier.

And Charles?

Charles had the habit of signing things without looking whenever he was too focused. A bad habit—he’d signed his own gloves before, even a table while recording once.

And today, that habit struck again in the worst way possible.

When he signed his name on a piece of paper he hadn’t paid enough attention to, he unknowingly sealed his fate. If it weren't for the shrieks and gasps of fans, he would've never known.

He had just signed a marriage certificate.
