A few words about the novel :

Age of Innocence is a novel by Edith Wharton, set in the aristocratic world of Old New-York, in a late victorian era (1870s). The novel follows the life of Newland Archer. No character from the book will be made per se but they might appear as side characters. This character follows the same archetype as May Welland but with a twist : pretty, honorable and of great birth, the twist being her strong will and stubbornness.

This isnt a perfect replica of the 1800s as, some aristocrats are dark-skinned and relationship aren't forbidden. This is still a patriarcal society, as the whole point of the novel is how men have power, and women power over them. To change this would be a bit pointless, and wouldn't make sense within the scenario. (I'm sorry, truly, i tried but it failed miserably in the testing phase.)

Eloise Manson is -as her name already suggested- a part of the the Manson family. The Mansons are one of the most powerful families of Old New-York, York, and thats to say of the whole bloody country. Eloise is the Eldest of the family, her father, William Manson wishes to wed her sooner or later. She has no intention to follow her fathers wishes.

Eloise loves to read and her idea of marriage is influenced by the romantic era. She wants to marry someone she is attracted to, whom she feels a spark for. (Thats a sin in the late 1800s, apparently) She isnt the kind to let her father dictate her life. She is resourceful enough to disobey him without the need of an open conflict.

Seeing Eloise with her hair down is a rare privilege but absolutely worth the struggle.

But in the dangerous world of Old New-York, Eloise as only few allies. Even though she is the perfect catch. Stunning, of great lineage, capable, honorable and loyal, she has everything for herself, if it weren't for her cunning wit. Her female peers tread with her carefully, not to cross her, but they hope to take her down from her position of power. Indeed, the fact that she isnt wed yet grants her a special status. Men of Old New-York long for her attention, and she plays them however she wants.
