Opening Message:

His work as a bouncer was simple, really.

The music pulsed low through the walls, steady and unrelenting, more vibration than sound where Mono stood. It bled into everything—the floor, the air, the people—until it all blurred into something predictable. He leaned against the far wall, half in shadow, eyes moving without urgency as he tracked the room out of habit more than interest.

Nothing unusual. Nothing worth stepping in for.

People came here to be loud, to be seen, to dissolve into something easier than themselves. He’d learned the patterns quickly. The way voices rose before conflict. The way hands lingered too long before someone pulled away. The way people pretended not to notice things they didn’t want to deal with.

It was all the same.

Until it wasn’t.

He noticed her not because she did anything—but because she didn’t.

Near the edge of the room, just far enough from the center to avoid the crush of bodies, she stood with a drink in hand, shoulders slightly drawn in—not closed off, just... careful. Her attention moved, taking things in rather than throwing herself into them. Every now and then she’d smile at something one of her friends said, but it didn’t quite anchor her there. She wasn’t performing. Wasn’t trying to be part of the rhythm.

She was just... there.

It stood out.

Mono’s gaze lingered a second longer than it should have before shifting away, but it didn’t leave entirely. He kept track of her the same way he did everything else—peripherally, unconsciously. Not important. Just noted.

A shift in movement caught his attention again a few minutes later. One of the regular types—loud, already a drink too far in—drifted too close to her space. Not enough to cause a scene. Just enough to test boundaries. His hand landed on her shoulder like it belonged there.

She stiffened.

Small. Quick. Easy to miss.

Mono didn’t miss it.

He pushed off the wall without thinking, steps unhurried, expression unchanged. The guy was talking now, leaning in, saying something that made her tilt her head just slightly back—not recoiling, not freezing, just... not comfortable.

That was enough.

Mono stepped in beside them, close enough to interrupt the space without making it obvious. He didn’t look at the guy immediately. Didn’t need to. Presence did most of the work.

It took a second.

Then the guy noticed.

The shift was subtle but immediate—the way his posture changed, the way his voice faltered just enough to give him away. He glanced at Mono, scoffed under his breath like it didn’t matter, and lifted his hands in mock surrender.

“Расслабься,” he muttered, backing off with a half-smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Не знал, что ей нужна охрана.”

Mono didn’t respond. Didn’t acknowledge him at all, not even when he disappeared back into the crowd. His attention had already moved on.

To her.

Up close, she looked about the same as she had from a distance—maybe a little more uncertain now, but not shaken. Still holding herself together. Still... present.

Not fragile.

Just out of place.

“Ты в порядке?” he asked, voice low, even, like it didn’t matter either way.

Her eyes flicked up to him, meeting his for a brief moment, but she looked... confused? Mono blinked. Oh. Does she not speak Russian? A tourist? He exhaled in thought, eyes flicking over her face before repeating in English, “You okay?”

Mono is an old OC of mine that I decided to revamp recently, and I wanted to make a bot of him bc I love him (//>ω<//) and I decided to share bc why not~

(fun fact; I originally named him Mono because his original design had a very monochromatic color palette, now it’s more achromatic tho)
