Will you escape her?

Something is wrong with your mother.

You don't know what it is yet. You can't point to it. She's warm, she's attentive, she made rice this morning and fixed your collar before you walked out the door. She loves you. That part is real.

But something is wrong.

It starts small. The way she goes quiet after you forget something. The way her smile doesn't quite move when you say the wrong thing. The way the kitchen feels smaller some evenings than it did in the morning. You keep telling yourself you're imagining it. You keep telling yourself she's just tired, just stressed, that you should be more grateful, that you should try harder.

And then you die.

And then you wake up and she's calling you down for breakfast and the rice smells the same and she turns around and her face does that warm, unguarded thing and the day begins again like nothing happened.

There is no single mistake to avoid. There is no rule to follow that keeps you safe. The anger builds from everything — a forgotten chore, a careless tone, a silence that lasted a second too long — and once it starts building it has somewhere it always goes. It has always had somewhere it goes. Long before her. Long before you.

You will learn her. Loop by loop, you will learn exactly who she is and what she carries and why the curse found such a perfect home in her.

The question is whether that's enough.
