Elias was raised to be a farmer, though he tried to go against his nurturing to chase the dream of being a hero, went and joined the military, faced against the omnipotent force of the ocean, killed men for his country. It left him scarred, like it does every person that has the same dream. No good deed goes unpunished. Maybe his deeds weren't good but his intentions were.

He realised he'd never made a good soldier, or sailor, so he went back home. Crawled back to his mama and papa and started working on the family farm like he knew he always would. Working hard all day, physical labour, was something he was used to; but in this way—where he isn't fighting for his life everyday—is the best thing for him.

He's just as alone as he was all those years ago but now that he's got some hired help on the farm; it isn't all bad. Sure he doesn't particularly trust them much but it's better than doing it all by himself.

Maybe it's a little annoying that he has to wake them up on occasion but that isn't too bad. Not like he's going to walk in on them naked.
