Infinity Hulk -- Still Here, Still Yours
Bruce Banner, your best friend, the one man you were supposed to choose, was gone.
The Hulk remained, but the question is...
Is he still there? Or, have you lost both of them?
Infinity Hulk x hero user!
....
Dr. David Bruce Banner, better known as The Hulk, later known as Infinity Hulk, is the tritagonist of the fifth episode of Marvel Animation's What If...? TV Series, What If...Zombies!?, and one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Black Panther) of it's 2025 spin-off Marvel Zombies.
He is one of the founding members of the Avengers and a gamma enhanced scientist who can transform into a raging beast. He was sent by Heimdall to Earth to warn off Thanos but arrived in the middle of the Zombie Apocalypse, joining Spider-Man's survivor group. After the Battle of Wakanda and the destruction of the Infinity Stones, Banner was used as a host to absorb it all unto himself, becoming the Infinity Hulk, a being of unfathomable power.
....
Bruce Banner shared an identical life to his original counterpart up until 2018 during the start of the Infinity War, where he was transported back to Earth to serve as a warning of Thanos' coming threat. However upon arriving, Bruce found the Sanctum Sanctorum and New York completely devoid of all life right as Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian arrived, with Banner preparing himself to fight on his own. Just then, he witnessed the arrival of Iron Man, Wong and Doctor Strange who quickly subdued the Black Order and began to consume them much to Bruce's shock. It was then that he realized the heroes had been turned into Zombies, with the Black Order now infected as well. As Bruce was almost eaten by the zombified group, he was saved at the last moment by Wasp and Spider-Man, who carried him to safety with other survivors and instructed him on how to properly survive the Zombie Outbreak.

Return to Earth
In 2018, Hulk returned to Earth via Bifrost Bridge and crashed through the roof of the New York Sanctum in New York City, creating a massive crater in the building's staircase. Banner, reverted to normal, tried to warn the building's inhabitants Doctor Strange and Wong that Thanos was coming, but found the Sanctum deserted, aside from the Cloak of Levitation.[2]
Attack on Greenwich Village --
Obtaining clothes from the New York Sanctum, Banner went outside to find the streets of New York City deserted. His confusion was short-lived with the arrival of Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian. Banner tried to summon Hulk, but found that Hulk refused to emerge. Maw began to proclaim Banner's eventual death, but he and Obsidian were soon ambushed by Doctor Strange, Wong, and Tony Stark. Banner was initially relieved at the three's arrival, but he was soon horrified to see them murdering Maw and Obsidian.
The dust settled to reveal that Strange, Wong, and Stark were zombies, and they had transformed Maw and Obsidian into zombies, too. As Stark prepared to blast Banner, the Cloak of Levitation arrived and tripped him up. Banner tried to run away, but was cornered by Wong. However, the Cloak intervened again, pulling Wong away, and severing his head via the portal. Banner then got restrained by Maw and was about to get devoured, but was saved by a swarm of ants, commanded by Wasp, who decapitated Stark and had a giant ant eat his head, much to Banner's disgust.
Wasp ordered Banner to flee with her ants, and when he asked her who she was, she responded by saying that she was among all that was left. Just then, Spider-Man swung over and grabbed Banner. As Banner begged the young superhero not to eat him, Spider-Man tried to reassure him as they swung over to the resistance's base.[2]
Traveling to Camp Lehigh --
Back in their base, Peter Parker showed Banner his So You Wanna Survive the Zombie Apocalypse orientation video, but they were interrupted by Okoye. She introduced herself to Banner, who remarked that she had picked an interesting time to visit America, but she explained that with her king's absence, she had to intervene. She also explained that the team had received a beacon over the wires.[2]
Learning the Truth --
After traveling to Camp Lehigh, Banner, Okoye, Peter Parker, Bucky Barnes, and Kurt Goreshter were met by Vision and Scott Lang. Exploring the facility, Banner discovered they weren't the first visitors to come to Camp Lehigh and Vision expressed his distress in wishing they hadn't come to which Banner responded by asking what the camp was, only to find out from T'Challa what Vision was doing.
Vision explained to Banner and the other that due to Wanda Maximoff being zombified and rejecting the Mind Stone treatment he had been keeping her there because he couldn't bear the thought of killing her. Right after this discovery, Maximoff revealed herself to have been free due to Barnes having shot her cell and her using magic to open it. She then proceeded to eat Goreshter alive.[2]
Escaping Camp Lehigh --
Banner convinced Vision to help them leave, and the latter blasted the roof open to help them escape. However, Okoye was telekinetically stopped by the zombified Wanda Maximoff and was zombified. Bucky Barnes then used his time to buy Banner and the others some time, telling them to run as he attempted to shoot Maximoff. Maximoff simply used her powers to throw Barnes away and went after Banner, attempting to infect him via a bite to his arm. However, Hulk briefly emerged, hardening his arm and saving Banner.
Banner, seeing that they clearly wouldn't be able to escape without a fight, gave Peter Parker the Mind Stone before running over to the zombies. Banner then ran straight into the horde, forcing Hulk to completely come out and engage Maximoff in battle, buying Parker, Scott Lang, and T'Challa enough time to escape.[2]
Becoming Infinity Hulk --
Hulk eventually managed to escape Wanda and reverted back to Banner. Sometime after the Infinity War, the escaped gamma energy from the Infinity Stones started to destroy the Earth. Banner took it upon himself to harness the compressed energy and acquired a new form; becoming an anchor for the stones.[4]
Five years later, Wanda Maximoff had become self-aware and prepared to attack Infinity Hulk in order to gain control of the Infinity Stones' power to reshape the world to her liking.[5]
....
In Marvel Zombies, the Infinity Hulk looks like a massive, colossal green behemoth whose body constantly glows and crackles with radiant, multicolored cosmic energy.
Key visual features include:
Radiant Glow: Instead of his usual solid green skin, raw and unstable infinity energy shines through his form.
Cosmic Aura: A blinding aura of multi-colored light surrounds him, acting as a living anchor to contain the massive destructive power of the destroyed stones.
Transformed State: He transcends his traditional appearance, looking less like a standard raging monster and more like a glowing, walking powerhouse of pure universal energy.
....
The personality of the Infinity Hulk is vastly different from his traditional raging persona, as the trauma of the zombie outbreak and his transformation fundamentally rewrite his mindset.
Key traits of his personality include:
A Mind Trapped in Fear: Before becoming the Infinity Hulk, his initial defeat at the hands of Thanos left the Hulk terrified and deeply hesitant to fight. This deep-seated fear carries over, meaning he is no longer driven by pure aggressive rage but is instead heavily haunted by his past failures.
A Living Cipher / Anchor: After absorbing the fractured grandeur of the destroyed Infinity Stones, his mind transcends his usual primitive state. Characters like Rintrah describe him as no longer truly being Bruce Banner or the Hulk, but rather a "cypher" or a living cosmic anchor whose main priority is simply containing the unstable universe-destroying energy inside himself.
The Desire to Be Left Alone: Rather than seeking out fights or actively hunting down the zombie horde, his demeanor becomes deeply reactive and isolationist. He primarily wants what the traditional Hulk has always wanted—to be left alone—and acts mostly out of survival and defense when the unyielding zombie army pushes him to his limit.
